Another retro DOA scan! This time it's Dead or Alive History -Team Ninja Freaks-. Originally published in the summer of 2004, this book is a collection of interviews, concept art, design docs and lots of "behind the scenes" stuff for DOAs 1-3 (including ++). Basically, lots of cool artwork and stuff you've likely never seen before. Enjoy and discuss!

I owned only a partial scan of this guidebook but I've always hoped to see the full version sooner or later... thanks so much for uploading it!

一ェレナの持ち技を壁控ト拳にLたのはどんな理由があったんですか?板垣 壁控ト拳って通な人な ら知ってぃる格闘技じゃないですか。 壁掛拳の先生祇 たまたま身近にいたとぃうの窓ありますが。 エレナの壁掛拳は非常に苦労したんですょ。 璧掛拳として作って丶 確かに璧掛拳をなぞったキャラとして一度完成したんですが、 使ってみた ら気持ちょくなかったので丶全吾E作り直しました。 ォりジナルがこうですからとかいろぃろ言うけど、 そんなの僕には関係ない。いかにォリジナルに忠実であっても、 動かして気持ちよ<ないキャラなんて 『DOA』 の世界には必要ないでずから。一べースは尊重しっっも、 使いやすさ丶 おもしろさを追求したんですね。板垣 作りたぃのは、 壁掛鞭いではな〈てェレナですから。 結果としてちやんと作り上げましたが 『DOA2』 の中で間連いなくいちばん苦労したキャラですね。 『DOA』では初めてになる構ぇの概'念を入れたりして、 マニァックなキャラに仕上がりました。 『DOA2』 は、 最初ァ~ケードゲームだったから、 やり 込む人には楽しかったんじゃないかな。個人的にェレナで印象的なのは 「関係ない」 ってセリフですね。 「あなたには関係ない……」 とか「あなたには関係ない丿 とか「あなたには閲係

Interesting how the concept art of the DoA3 cutscenes with Hayabusa and Hayate with their masks on. I wonder what inspired the artists/designers to leave their default costumes in that game maskless.

Thanks a lot for this grap3! This really helps for me as an aspiring game designer or concept artist.

Also these devs seem to like Ayane a lot haha. Lots of content for her, which works for me since I like Ayane a lot too. :)

Maybe they figured since all the female ninjas were exposing their chests it was only fair the males did it too, lol.

And Jann Lee being originally called "Ruu" and looking exactly like Fei Long.

Thanks a lot sweet man!

Curious to know if there will be a translated version on market one day.
Precious things are the "from Team Ninja" text areas on each character's bio and what is said about the Polygon Fighters! Those stereotypes...

Also, funny to see that some concept arts for Marie-Rose, Nyotengu and Honoka were kind of mixed. Marie could have been sadistic and mature like Nyo, Nyo could have been bubbly and pinked-haired like Honoka, and Honoka was probably inspired by one of Marie's first concept arts.

Also, based on some drawings, maybe Misaki was created from aborted arts, who knows.

She appears as a young and prudish schoolgirl with no real story, but actually hides her identity as a mischievous and well-trained MIST agent.

Finally, love these concepts for Helena. She needs more Piguaquan inspired costumes.
