Pretty sure the film isn't a necessity to play through FFXV.

It isn't. Movie and game are two independent stories but there is some interesting stuff that you might want to know if you play the game and want to fully dive into its story and lore. I would want to know how King Regis actually died and how Luna escaped that hell hole of a city with the ring. It will probably be roughly summarized in the game story but I would rather see it myself.

Ah, sorry for double posting I wanted to edit this into my other post but failed...
Oh boy, even if it sold well, I can't really say it respects the source material or that it's a good movie...

Advent Children was imo garbage and actually not better than Kingsglaive. It made many of the exact same mistakes. Both films looked gorgeous at least. Kingsglaive looks definitely more gorgeous then AC though.

@DestructionBomb, have you watched Kingsglaive?

I watched Advent Children years before playing FFVII and I must say it was a good decision, because if I saw it after playing the game, I wouldn't have been able to contain my rage for how it pisses all over the original.
It's a bad, bad movie and the way it treats Cloud's development and story is almost unbearable.

@Hayabusiness Indeed they should. See here's the thing, this applies to all games in a general mass. Might be similar to what Rikuto wrote awhile back but it's not entirely wrong on his part. "Graphics engine is not a major factor into a well selling game. If the gameplay or story is shit, then the game is shit no matter how much colors or crayons you put into it." Course, that's besides the film, the issue is that Square Enix is in general a gaming company that simply has better chances making a game than a film.

Which is why I also said in the past that graphics isn't a necessity to make a good game. It's merely the blanket to warm itself up or to keep up with the time on current technology. One does not need to go back in time to stick to old graphics, dear god no. However implementing hard graphics can become an excuse to modern day gaming on what it is to truly feel like you play the game for what you enjoy. Quite a number of people become naive to it and oblivious. It's like seeing a young one who would rather read the book with pictures and colors on it, rather than the book of just words that defined an interesting story. A picture book has the potential to become a good book if it draws an audience, but putting too much colors will make it a shell of impending problems that uses graphics to draw attention from the eyes to make money rather than the core element.

FFXV has done really well with the gameplay and I have some hopes for the story, but it isn't necessarily something of grand exposure. Grand exposure is similar to FFVII's first release via PS1 that not only brought up enhanced graphics from leaving early builds of FF, but provided a story that came out extremely good somehow. That's the stuff you give props to (though I do think FFVII is highly overrated and far too much talked about, people can't exactly hate on the game for the accomplishment it did within that particular era.)

@Tyaren Yes, I've watched it on VUDU for $14.99. If I had a dollar stuck on a vending machine it would make me feel far less disappointing in eating up money.

Is that new Chaos god in Dissidia a replacement for Jecht? I like some ideas from that new character but also some things that I don't like about him. Mixed at the moment on those Dissidia gods. Prefer Cosmos's design.
Who said anything about the gods being playable? All we know is that we're getting strictly calendar-based faction battles, and Spiritus and Materia are just there as placeholder central characters to flesh out what I hope will be a story for the console version.

Might as well just bring Chaos itself, but then you realize he wouldn't actually fit and may even get banned from gameplay due to his rigid movesets and intense build. Chaos was too tall. (both wouldn't really make sense for Dissidia either way. It's a whole new direction.)
With the direction the gameplay is going now, a handful of characters will have trouble transitioning to the new gameplay system anyway, especially those who lived and died by the meter like Gabranth or Prishe because they lacked certain standard variations of attacks. Others like Mateus, Kuja (who I'm surprised isn't in the roster by now because his playstyle is practically the base of the new metagame), and especially Ultimecia may have to be toned down significantly.

There were silhouette image scans of those characters that you seen within that video, however I did not expect them to be new characters. I assumed one of them was Jecht based on the outline+posture and another FF character they wanted to reveal. Ace was the only character by far that was by complete surprise for me. As for the gods being playable (via twitter JPN rumors mind you), one would think they would still be in the game as arcade bosses but not in actuality playable. Even if they could they'd have to find a way to incorporate moves to fit against the cast in balance sense, though that would be moved aside since Dissidia arcade is completely new even in story eventually. Basically these two characters are the answer to them.

I was rather surprised for Kuja as well. I still think he'll show up eventually even in vanilla arcade type within Dissidia. Ultimecia sounds like a problem, though shouldn't really be impossible. She may take some elements directly from FFVIII (which isn't a lot considering she isn't revealed until end-game portion back in VIII.)

New concept art of Insomnia was released:

The city changed drastically over the years. You could already see in the movie that it looks like a European city mixed with an American City like New York (the road signs were a mix of German and US American signs too) with some fantastical elements sprinkled in. It doesn't look like Tokyo at all anymore, except the Royal Palace that still looks like the Shinjuku City Hall.

Alright, so I watched Kingsglaive and I pretty much agree with most that has been said in the earlier posts about the movie.
It wasn't that impressive and well presented, I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either. Some scenes were hard to follow and sometimes I didn't understand what was going on, especially during some of the fights. Though after all, it's nice to know in a detailed way [?] the events that precede the game, and it made me a little more excited to play the it, cause I obviously wanna know what will happen next.
And about Luna.... (little spoiler if you didn't watch the movie)
I really hope she won't be like that in game.
I literally facepalmed during the scene in which she jumped out of that airship thing. I mean, I like the fact that she doesn't fear death, but it was a reckless and dumb action.
Edit : Oh, and the Italian voice acting was not that bad, actually it was quite good, I expected it to be much worse xD

First of all that concept art is beautiful I can't wait to explore Insomnia! It looks very good.

Anyway I didn't even know the movie was out where can I watch it? It seems from the reaction it isn't amazing but I still want to see it just because from the sounds of it it's just kind of annoying at points but the world is still interesting. Also I'm interested from the sounds that It's very dark.

Edit: Also Hi @Aerospark/Beyonce

She did act as if she had a constant death wish, right? On one hand she was always going on about finding Noctis and about fulfilling some kind of destiny (she acted like the Terminator. XD) and on the other hand she was constantly getting herself and the people around her in grave danger because of her recklessness. How will she help Noctis if she gets herself killed...like a thousand times?

I'm optimistic game-Luna is different though...

Don't give me any spoilers but god Insomnia is so gorgeous I just saw the other photos you posted and It really is a beautiful city, I hope it isn't to destroyed by the end of the movie. I also saw the movie is £15 to watch so I'm not sure about watching it right now.

Also I'm wondering just how evil these villains are?

The Niflheim Empire is imo pure evil. XD To be honest, at first I thought they might not be as black and white...but after watching the movie they actually are. They are relentless, cruel and deceptive. Some terrible stuff happens to some characters in the movie. :(

That sounds good! I'm looking forward to seeing just how far they can push how evil they are. :D

You know, I do actually like when villains have some nuance to them. Maybe some likable traits and relatable motives. The villains in this, except maybe Ardyn (I don't know yet) are greedy, selfish assholes. I definitely want to kick their mean asses in the game. I guess, that is a good thing. ;)

I tend to like the villains more than the heroes in a lot of things ( like Maleficent ) But I like both completely evil villains and I also do love the villains that are relatable or likable it just matters how well they are written. So If the villains are incredibly evil then It would be cool to see one of the antagonists kind of thinking they are going to far and try to change sides.

Woah, an updated version of the World of Wonder was just released with some additional scenes and Noctis voice over! O:

So beautiful! *__* And we haven't seen more than half of the world yet.

That was amazing! The fact that we've seen only half of the world is insane, This world is going to be so big. Additional scenes and Noctis' voice make it just even better I am so hyped for this game.

Duscae is in my opinion so well designed, interesting and unique. When I played the demo all I ever could was gazing into the distance to the glimmering shard, wanting to explore everything beyond the boundaries. (I used the car glitch, but it just wasn't the same.) A really mystical and awe-inspiring setting... O:

Screens from the video:

I hope it transfers well into the final game...since we know there have been graphical downgrades. :/

@Jadeinchains, but I think it will be really exciting for you to visit and explore this place. There is nothing like this in The Witcher 3 even.

The car glitch? Is that when they run you over?

And yeah it will be amazing to have the full game and just be able to drive, ride chocobo, Trains, boats, Fly and run around the entire world. Going to Duscae is going to be completely new for me so I'm looking forward to what I'll see there and I bet there will be lots of new stuff as well. The crystal pillars are amazing as well seeing them in the distance what ever there purpose is in the world.

I really will be spending so much time just wondering around and going on tours around the world and visiting all the places in cities. I can't wait to search for the old creatures like Moogles and Tonberry!
