Ninja Gaiden Thread

Ok, that might be NiOH, that might be Ninja Gaiden 4, or it could even be Dead or Alive 6.

My highest hopes are on NG4, but i would be fine with the other two options as well. While Ninja Gaiden was more known to its brutal difficulty (which is something Nioh also has), it is also one of the Tecmo franchises that really shine in the west. just giving out my two cents here.

unfortunately money talks here

that's why i'm boycotting NiOH and FFNT. these increase on sales already give the wrong message to KT and TN to play it safe.

don't be surprise if another COD or OVERWATCH is coming from TN.

Wait, you are trolling just a little right?

Team NINJA has worked on other projects beyond their typical universe before, like Metroid: Other M. I think Dissidia is a step in the right direction with their collaborative efforts. It also gives me hope that we will see other Square cross overs in the future of Team NINJA's work. Wishful thinking, but more logical on my end that it was before.

As for Nioh... don't people universally agree that the game is a terrific expansion to the Team NINJA universe? Team NINJA's most critically acclaimed game since Ninja Gaiden Black? It feeds a player base for them that the FGC can't fill, and it's not some cheap trick, it's a masterpiece and was easily a GOTY contender.

Wouldn't it make sense for them to continue the trend? They also did this with Ninja Gaiden, and there were a bunch of ports/remakes that were STILL well received games. Dead or Alive's focus was dropped for YEARS. Far longer than the DOA4-5 period, and with hardly any community or support to keep it going.

I want DOA6 as well, but it's not how this business works. Then some people in the community proceed to take things out of hand which doesn't progress things along any further and ultimately hurts everyone. Sometimes they get mad and never come back. I have my hobbies and I know I will be back to play more when the time comes, and Team NINJA is familiar enough with my tastes to give me satisfying experience in other genres while I wait.

When you want to move TN forward, but instead, boycott to move backwards and never move or improve at all. Lol.

TN is doing an excellent job and it's pretty good that they are expanding on working on other games and other company IPs. Others can see their work and how they do it when they handle other IPs.

For my likings, the ideal would be Nioh 2 and NG4, because I like both franchises a lot. But the most important thing would be the quality of them. I personally liked Nioh Alpha demo a lot and was kinda disappointed with beta and final release. A lot of people were disappointed with NG3 vanilla too. So, at the end of the day, I don't have doubts Team Ninja can do a very good product, but they have to start with the right intentions, and not try to necessarily make an "accessible game", or try to appeal to a broader audience with a lot of cinematic stuff and qte and such. While Nioh is already made accessible by its many crutch mechanics, NG would suffer a lot from a casualization of the mechanics. NG is known for forcing the player to input commands with consciousness and accuracy, I don't want they change it into a masher.

Useless post: are you playing any NG game at the moment? Personally I'm playing:

NGS2: MN, story mode/chapter challenge, learning to play on the following restrictions: no items (health upgrades allowed), no ninpo, no UT's, no air to air moves (including izuna and similar). I agree that this game is not good as the original. But since it's also much easier than the original, it can be played differently, so I'm trying these restrictions and I'm discovering cool things about the weapons. I've always thought Lunar was useless in no UT style, but I was totally wrong, it's really badass.

Mostly training in story mode (which means base level weapons), playing the first four chapters, alternating this with chapter challenge Momiji and chapter 14. Though, I've already completed the full master ninja campaign once with all these restrictions aside from: using izuna drops against gaja in the first Zedonius fight, using air to air combos in the first half of the game (I banned them later). And it may sound impressive I it's NOT, because this game is so much easier than vanilla. Still I'm enjoying this a lot.

NG3RE: I wanted to keep this one for when I was completely burned out on NGS2, but I need something to play between sessions, and I got a bit tired of souls/BB/Nioh. So I'm playing this one more casually, but I admit I've always been thrash at it. Hopefully I'll get better since I really like RE. I never played through UN story mode, right now I'm playing MN story mode, no scythe 360T, and basically no other rule/restriction aside from trying to not using UT's outside of the ToV. Just playing Day 1 over and over, buying different weapons and messing around with them all (at level one because it's story mode). Doing the ToV, but since I'm playing casually I'm not getting mad over it, I try it a couple times, if I get tired I quit it and finish Day 1. Then restart. Fav weapon: Talons.

I've always been obsessed about ToV1 in story, you have level 1 weapons and it's tough for me, so it's a personal challenge I'd like to beat in the future.

Though, playing casually atm, so I think I'll clear Day1 last time with the DS and make a save at the start of Day 2.

So, are you playing any NG? Do you have any plan or resolution?

Well, i'm always playing Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge and trying to improve it, though i take some long breaks after some time.

Always trying to figure out new ways to deal with enemies, or new ways to use my moveset, or both, or just trying to do a gauntlet i have problem better.

But i'm also currently working on Ninja Gaiden Black Master Ninja difficulty.

Still wishing they'd make Ninja Gaiden for PC
I don't play on pc but I hope any NG will be ported on pc/steam, so this could potentially bring more people in the franchise and raise the demand for a new NG game.

That's my relationship with NG. I love it but sometimes I have to take long breaks from it, it's a very demanding game and sometimes it's necessary to just rest. I also like playing story mode in all NG games so my objectives always lean towards improving consistency at the hardest gauntlets, so I share this too. I'm also curious about your experience with NGB, your playsyle etc.

I played that game a couple of years ago and loved it, though I mostly played casually, a lot of ninpo, items, UT's... My best goal in NGB was to just clear archive challenge and peristyle challenge no UT no ninpo. But I was using items and izuna drops. Lately I've been interested in no air to air rule. Staying in the air makes Ryu almost invincible, and izuna drops has true i-frames, so using ground combos, albeit much harder, would make the game more interesting. Though, I don't know if this would be actually possible in all NG games. In Sigma 2 and RE is definitely possible on any difficulty level including MN and UN. But in NGB? NGS1? NGII vanilla?

I guess NG04 it could maybe possible, but I never played it. In NGB it would be very tricky since some of the new enemies are incredibly annoying.

NGII: people can do it in certain parts of the game.

I play NGRE every now and then
I didn't have doubts about it, you are a RE master :)

So I am halfway through Ninja Gaiden Sigma on Hard mode now and I really needed some advice on a few things. How do you actually perform some of the Dual Katanas XY strings without triggering the flying swallow, what are the recommened strategies against Vigoorian Berserkers, and lastly, how do you deal with the ghost fish that you have to fight alongside Spirit Doku?

1) I didn't use the dual swords. Can't help.

2) IIRC, the general strategy for Vigoorian Bersekers was to use either the Vigoorian Flail or Dragon Sword's XY combos. The shoulder attack is more difficult to punish than their uppercut-like vertical swing, so look out for that (roll into it if you have to) then hammer XYY.

3) This is a dumb one. If someone has a flawless strategy for it, feel free to enlighten me. Fire wheels ninpo can be great for keeping them off you, but due to how they circle you, sometimes ghost fish still get in, and now you've just wasted a ninpo. The other strategies include using the flail and hoping Doku cooperates, or using other ninpo when the school gets too big (such as inazuma). It's a stupid fight. Hate it in Normal. Hated it more in Master Ninja. As a matter of fact, it may have been my single least favorite part of Ninja Gaiden Black's Master Ninja run. It was that or the military base (as for Sigma, it would be any and all Rachel segments).

While i haven't played sigma myself (only black), i know some stuff due to being around.

Can't help with the dual katana, but if i was going to guess based on how XY strings works on other games, you either do the variation where ryu doesn't go airborne when doing it (i believe by holding the Y input a bit), if ryu is always grounded in the string and he goes for a flying swallow after it, the trick might be a small delay after pressing XY, it is what happens on NG3RE.

Vigorian Berserkers, The strategy for them in Ninja Gaiden Black that i trust more is using the vigoorian flails, but i know in Ninja Gaiden Sigma, you can just easily kill them by using the dragon sword counter, since it seems that unlike NGB, in NGSigma A lot of attacks from the berserkers aren't guard breaks, at least is what a majority of players told me.

Ghost Doku Ghost fish, again, if it is the same situation that is present on NGBlack, it is a limited and short spawn triggered on some points of the fight, so go to a side, use the Art of Inazuma Level 3, let the animation play out, and it will kill that entire spawn of ghost fish, hit doku until it reaches the HP point where they spawn again (i believe it is every time you take 25% of his life), do Art of Inazuma as well, i imagine at this point you will have 4 Ninpo slots available, so you shouldn't worry about getting red essence, but you'll probably get some with the ghost fish anyways.

Wish i could play sigma myself to test things out, will get a ps3 eventually for that.

I would tell you not to bother because it's like Black but worse, but since you like shitty Ninja Gaiden games, you may enjoy it anyway.

Wait, in NG Black, ghost fish will appear alongside Doku on NORMAL?! It only appears on difficulties other than normal and ninja dog in sigma, and ghost fish won't appear alongside Doku on all difficulties in the vanilla NG. And I already hated Spirit Doku as a standalone boss.
