I wonder if the Japanese fanbase is clinging to this same line like the obnoxious NA fans are. You know. The ones who can understand what he said without running through translators.

There is no Japanese version of the article, nor a full version of the interview, so they wouldn't know any better. It most probably wasn't a direct translation either, since I really doubt that Simbori said boobs/oppai/おっぱい …

I think the most unique thing about the three is Luna. She is super freaking short. It would be like fighting Yoda in SCIV for one of the guys.

She's taller than Marie…

It's quite simple; learn your facts before spreading misleading information to a community in hopes of getting what you want. Because Itagaki actually had a vision for Lisa, and she had a story on the side that also released the theme of the character right away: someone you want to like, but can't trust.

If they put Misaki, Luna or Tamaki in -- they would be complete throwaway characters to anyone expecting something cool and refreshing to the series... and once again Team NINJA didn't make these girls and we have Honoka.

To answer @NewWestFan yes; they are painfully generic in most cases, but if people like them in their volleyball game sure. I think the most unique thing about the three is Luna. She is super freaking short. It would be like fighting Yoda in SCIV for one of the guys.

Honoka's generic as well (no offense to her, but she really is to a certain extent. She's pretty much the Kirby of Dead or Alive), even with her being implied to be related to Raidou. As a matter of fact, Marie Rose ALSO is even MORE generic than Honoka since, unlike the other newcomers, she literally has no connection to the plot in any way (Phase 4 is the latest line of Kasumi Clones, and besides which actually FOUGHT Bayman in the game at one point; Honoka at least has her being implied to be related to Raidou and Ayane in some manner, and even Nyotengu has her pursuing Ryu Hayabusa for reasons that are tied somehow to that Tengu from DOA2). Last I checked, that didn't stop them from creating them for DOA5U or DOA5LR. And besides, Luna's introduction episode literally hinted at her knowing Karate and/or Bushido, and the latter's a fighting technique they HAVEN'T used in the series yet (I'd know because I'm the one who translated/transcribed that episode via Google Translate). Heck, on that note, Marie Rose and Honoka are roughly Luna's height. If they can get into the mainline fighting games, so can Luna. And I'm not spreading any misinformation at all, let alone doing so in the hopes of getting what I want (for the record, even if I WERE to consider spreading misinformation, which I wouldn't because it's dishonest and dirty, I know the Japanese developers will ignore me and others anyway).

What would they offer DOA from a fighting perspective that's new and original? Not sarcasm I have no desire to ever purchase or even watch VV or most of the extreme games so I'm ignorant here. Are they super original and creatively designed? Because from the pics I've seen they look pretty generic ecchi.

Being generic ecchi didn't really stop Honoka and Marie Rose's creation and inclusion into the franchise, so I'm doubtful Luna being that would be a reason to leave her out. Besides, considering her Event Episode debut actually had her using the Karate greeting, and also mentioning Bushido, I'm pretty sure that Luna at least knows those fighting techniques. And while Karate is already used by Hitomi, Bushido is a fighting technique that ISN'T used in the Dead or Alive series yet, so having Luna in DOA6 would actually bring a new fighting style to the mix. In a way, bringing her in would actually HELP the fighting element of the franchise by introducing a new fighting style. I know that would have been MY rationale for adding her in if I were Shimbori. Regarding Misaki and Tamaki, well, Tamaki could use a fighting style that mimicks bouldering, even have her be self-taught, and Misaki could get some other fighting style that suits her. Hey, if they can give Lisa a Mucha Libre fighting style when she got her formal debut in DOA4, I'm pretty sure they can think of something for Misaki and Tamaki.

She's taller than Marie…

Yeah, and if Marie Rose can get in despite being a dwarf and the smallest of the cast in more ways than one, I'm pretty sure Luna has the same chances, since like Honoka, she's only an inch taller than Marie Rose.

I wonder if the Japanese fanbase is clinging to this same line like the obnoxious NA fans are. You know. The ones who can understand what he said without running through translators.

Unfortunately, as @just_me pointed out, there's no way we CAN know what the Japanese fanbase thinks of that line or cling to it, because unlike, say, the American Comic and Films statement which at least actually WAS transcribed in Japanese via Famitsu, he told this to GameSpot directly, presumably in English, without even leaving a transcript of the interview written in Japanese, so as far as they can tell, what he said in English IS what he said in Japanese.

There is no Japanese version of the article, nor a full version of the interview, so they wouldn't know any better. It most probably wasn't a direct translation either, since I really doubt that Simbori said boobs/oppai/おっぱい …

Considering they also talked about how they reduced the jiggle physics to such an extent that they are literally not noticeable, I wouldn't rule out Shimbori actually saying that and that was a direct translation. Besides, SJW or not, why on earth would GameSpot just falsify a translation like that? I'm pretty sure if they did that, Shimbori would have sued them for defamation, meaning they wouldn't dare screw up something like that if their lives depended on it.

Anyways, we really should stop talking about this.

For reference I feel like Honoka is a wasted slot as well. (Sorry Honoka mains!)

So your defense is that because they were created for 5 and they're shameless ecchi that Luna has a shot at 6 despite TN moving the franchise away from what Honoka shamelessly represents? Just for reference I don't care for any of them personally I'm just considering things logically and unbias lmao. Also isn't Bushido the Samurai Code? There's a martial arts based on it?...

Judo, Aikido, Iaido are linked to it.
A 8-stance fictional art could be created as well, based on the eight precepts of Bushido.

Not saying I would like her, but everything is possible.
Oh. Interesting. I wasn't aware of that thank you for the knowledge buff!

Actually, my defense was that Luna actually WOULD have a valid martial art based on at least the precepts of Bushido, if not Bushido itself, whether fictional or, as KwonJigglypuff pointed out, even real life fighting styles like Judo, Aikido, and Iaido (and that's assuming they don't simply have her reuse Hitomi's Karate style). That would have given her a perfect excuse to be in the game since, unlike Misaki and/or Tamaki, she actually DOES have an established fighting style, or at least was implied to have one. In fact, how about I post the transcript for the third part of her Event Episode debut series just for you:

Scene 1
Hitomi: あっ、あやねさん、こんにちは!押忍!

Ayane: あら、ヒトミ。またトレーニング?張り切るのは良いけど、無理しないようにね。

Hitomi: はい、ありがとうございます!で、えっと、そちらの方は… …

Ayane: 紹介するわ。新人の宇宙人よ。

Luna: ルナです

Hitomi: えつと、ルナさん、押忍!って、ええっ!?宇宙人?

Luna: 否定はしません。

Ayane: ま、それくらいおかしな子ってこと。

Hitomi: はあ、なるほど… …?ルナさん、わたしはヒトミです。よろしくお願いします。押忍っ!

Luna: お、おす… …?

Hitomi: ふ、ぇっと、空手や武道のあいさつ… …かな?

Luna: おー、カラテ… …ブシドー… …

Ayane: なに?興味あるみたいじゃない。ヒトミ、何か教えてあげれば?

Hitomi: ええっ?えつと、じゃあ、お近づきのしるしに… …

Scene 2

Hitomi (OFF): ここを、こうやって、こう。そう、背筋は伸ばして、お腹から声を出して……

Luna: お、おす!

Hitomi: よくできました、押忍っ!

Ayane: なかなか様になってるじゃない。

Luna: では、わたしからも… …

Scene 3

Hitomi (OFF): えつと、これを… …こう?

Luna (OFF): そう… …

Ayane (OFF): ええっ!?

Luna: ルナに。おまかせ!

Ayane: … …

Hitomi: … …

Luna: かっこいい… …

And here's the English translation (or at least, my attempt at it via Bing Translator. I'll admit it's probably not all that good, but it's what I got):

Scene 1

Hitomi: Hey, Aya, hello! -Shinobu!

Ayane: Oh, Hitomi. Training again? Eager is good, but don't overdo it.

Hitomi: Yes, thank you! So, um, that one...

Ayane: I'll introduce you. She's a rookie of the universe.

Luna: Luna.

Hitomi: Etsu, Luna-san, pushing Shinobi! What, eh!? Aliens?

Luna: No denying.

Ayane: Well, that's a funny girl.

Hitomi: Oh, I see...? Luna-san, I am Hitomi. Thank you. Push!

Luna: you, male...?

Hitomi: Heh, the greeting of karate and martial arts... ... I wonder?

Luna: Oh, karate... Bushido... ...

Ayane: What? It's not like you're interested. Hitomi, can you teach me something?

Hitomi: What? Etsu, then, to the sign of your approaching......

Scene 2

Hitomi (OFF): This is how this is done. Yes, the spine stretched out, and the voice from the stomach......

Luna: You, male!

Hitomi: Well made, Tsu Shinobu!

Ayane: It's not quite like that.

Luna: Well, from me...

Scene 3

Hitomi (OFF): Etsu, this...... This way?

Luna (OFF): Right... ... More, cool... ...

Hitomi (OFF): Oh, Aya-san, this, you have to do? Give it a try.

Ayane (OFF): Greetings from the Aliens.

Luna (OFF): Well, then, at least, together...

Ayane (OFF): What!?

Luna: To Luna. Leave it to me!

Ayane: ... ...

Hitomi: ... ...

Luna: Cool... ...

It's in the first scene. She says "O, Osu" (which Bing Translator seems to translate as "You male" for some reason), and Hitomi recognized it as the Karate greeting. After that, Luna briefly mentions Bushido. Now, if someone with far better mastery of Japanese than me has any objections or has a better idea of what they're saying (and I'm no master by any stretch, being a novice), please, feel free to post the correct translation. And I was thinking about it in an unbiased manner, since I was thinking strictly in terms of fighting abilities, not ecchi fanservice or anything like that (in fact, Misaki and Tamaki I'm not even sure if they even HAVE a fighting style. Then again, I don't think Lisa even HAD a fighting style in DOAXVV, yet they certainly had no problem giving her one in DOA4, so I see little reason for the other two to not get one).

And to be fair to Honoka, at least she has a valid story reason to have a slot, considering she's heavily implied to be related to Raidou and Ayane somehow thanks to her powers, which alongside Raidou being back from the dead now, actually makes her the most likely of the four new girls in DOA5U/LR to actually HAVE an important role in future games if you think about it. If anyone came across as a wasted slot, it's Marie Rose, as not only does her type not really fit Dead or Alive at all (not to mention was made in explicit violation of Hayashi's promise of not doing DLC characters), but she literally has no real story-based reason to stay, something which the other three girls at least had. The most we've got is Marie Rose being a servant of Helena. That's it, which is about as relevant to the story as whether Helena likes Starbucks. Phase 4, Nyotengu, and Honoka at least have their being the latest line of Kasumi clones and beating up Bayman in the prologue, trying to track down Ryu for him killing that Tengu in DOA2, and having a connection to Raidou as solid reasons to be in the story.).

Ah yeah fair enough. Misinterpreted your meaning. Though to be completely honest it's still a bit of a stretch considering the direction they're choosing to take with 6 and the official statements that no one introduced in VV would make the cast. Safe to say though that the DLC train will come around and it might be a possibility eventually. As for Lisa that's a fair point though she is the only dark(er these days) skinned female in DOA so bringing her in diversified the female cast a little and was met with warm reception (Though TN needs to find and stick with a skintone for her).

My point in the discussion is that (Apart from the lines of dialogue you have mentioned) they're generic and wouldn't bring a lot as characters beyond filling slots and pushing DLC once they start down that road again.

I still think that keeping the XVV girls out of DOA6 is a mistake, especially Luna who unlike the others at least HAS an actual fighting style (I didn't like it when they cut the six girls out from DOAX3, do you really think I'd like it if they cut out three girls introduced in DOAXVV to DOA6? Besides, Lisa actually got into DOA4 anyways, and based on the poll results, she's actually the least popular female character, at least among the Japanese. If they can do it with her, I see no reason why they can't do it with Misaki, Luna, or Tamaki.).

And, eh, to be fair, a lot of the characters in the series were pretty generic (they weren't written like Metal Gear characters, I'll tell you THAT much). I guess the closest I can give to actual uniqueness is Tina Armstrong/Bass Armstrong/Zack/Lisa Hamilton and Helena Douglas, where the former four at least averted the (if you ask me) rather annoying trend in Japanese games of depicting patriotic Americans as the main villains or depicting as heroes anti-American characters, even if they technically hold to American nationality and are often forced to do America's bidding (Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, and Vanquish all had that exact problem), and the latter at least wasn't depicted as a promiscuous sex pot despite being French or, well, any of the French stereotypes other than maybe being physically beautiful and somewhat haughty (the promiscuous sex pot remark was based on Peace Walker, more specifically Cecile Cosima Caminades, who... well, let's just say she REALLY loved May 1968 and was uninhibited as a result, not to mention came across as a complete ditz.).

Honestly, that actually seems to discredit her familiarity with (Earth?) martial arts. Here, let me take a stab at it:
Hitomi: Ah, Ayane-san, hello! Osu!
Ayane: Oh, Hitomi. Training again? It's good you're so enthusiastic, but don't overwork yourself.
Hitomi: Right! Thank you very much! So, uh... who is...?
Ayane: Let me introduce you. This is a new space alien.
Luna: I'm Luna.
Hitomi: Uh, Luna-san! Osu! ...Wait, what?! A space alien?
Luna: I will not deny that.
Ayane: Yeah, she's kind of a weird one like that.
Hitomi: Ah, I see...? Well, Luna-san, I'm Hitomi. It's nice to meet you! Osu!
Luna: O-osu...?
Hitomi: Oh, it's a greeting used in karate and other martial arts... Or something like that.
Luna: Ohh... Karate... Bushido...
Ayane: What? You seem like you've gotten interested, haven't you? Think you could teach her something, Hitomi?
Hitomi: Whaa? Uh, well, <I genuinely have no idea what she could possibly be saying here>
Feel free to ask someone better at Japanese than myself (trust me, I'm still pretty weak with the language), but this should be leaps and bounds above the mess Bing gave you.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with the new girls and they have their place and Team NINJA seems to like them... they are fairly generic, but I want completely new characters as well. Because of DOA's increase in graphics I'm worried that my favorites will not make the cut. Yeah we are seeing the obvious choices, but if Rachel and Tina got exed out of DOA6 like they did over DOAX3 (I know the situation was weird) I will be hurt. Especially if Luna makes it in and not an OG that people rely on to be there.

To me that would be kind of insulting to the people that have stuck with the series since the 90s like me. I've already accepted moving on without Alpha, and I would be hella sad if I went without Tina and Rachel.

Eh, if DOA5LR can handle 36 characters just from its PS4/Xbox One version, including guests, I'm pretty sure that DOA6, which unlike DOA5LR actually IS going to be made for the PS4/Xbox One, can handle a bit more than that. Still, I am concerned about Tina and Rachel making the cut or not (well, Rachel mostly. I'm pretty sure Tina's going to make it in especially if she's released in October and they follow the order of who got delisted in that stupid wallpaper poll). Of course, after certain comments made on GameSpot by the director, I'm definitely very concerned of what they'll do to them (not to mention Honoka and Ayane) if they DO make it in. I fear based on what he said that they'll get the Helena treatment (and while you could justify Helena getting her bust shrunk, I don't think you can do the same to Tina, Ayane, Rachel, or Honoka since they canonically HAVE very large busts, among the largest busts among the girls in fact). Heck, technically, since six of the characters they had in DOA5LR were guest characters and thus probably won't be back for DOA6, there's technically plenty of room to add all the DOA5LR cast PLUS the DOAXVV girls and still have room for three more characters (heck, since Alpha-152's dead as of DOA5, technically there'd be four left over to add in as well).

Besides, what makes you think they're going to cut characters out of DOA6 (besides Alpha 152, I mean. I can see why she would be cut from DOA6 due to her being, you know, dead)? I don't think they ever indicated that (I know they certainly did with DOAX3, which if you ask me was a mistake, but I don't think they said one way or another regarding any of the characters in DOA6 besides the new DOAXVV characters).

Personally, I prefer adding all the characters in there than cutting characters (all characters actually created by Team Ninja that is). Just doesn't feel right to simply cut characters out. Now maybe the character is, you know, either canonically dead or otherwise a guest character [or in the case of Xtreme 3, a Kasumi clone], I could understand cutting them out, but not any other instance.

Honestly, that actually seems to discredit her familiarity with (Earth?) martial arts. Here, let me take a stab at it:

Well, it's largely similar to what I got barring Ayane's remark about aliens (my translation via Bing made it sound as though Ayane was telling Hitomi that Luna was joking or something) and obviously the Osu thing, which does point to her not knowing Karate (which reminds me, I'm definitely going to need to fix that bit). However, she does definitely seem to at least know about Bushido, based on her mention of Bushido without anyone else bringing it up directly. Yeah, Bing has issues (Google Translate too), but it's the best I can muster right now.

Ok, so overall some people don't want them in 6 because they think they are generic and think characters would be cut? Even though you can say the same about other certain characters ( which I won't name so I won't start an argument to someone's favorite) and the thing being that DLC applies. I really doubt that truly the case here.

Anyways, I wonder what the future of the Xtreme series after 6?

All I can say is that they'd BETTER create an Xtreme 3 Ultimate. They owe us that after Xtreme 3 was just badly done, even ignoring the cutting of six characters. Either have them all in (at least those actually of DOA/Ninja Gaiden who aren't Kasumi clones), or don't bother making the game.

I believe they should add in all the cut girls for Xtreme 3 first. Since they obviously failed to deliver with DLC in Xtreme 3 despite promising such and activities as well right at release, the only other viable option is Xtreme 3 Ultimate. I'm not one to settle with an incomplete game (and let's face it, Xtreme 3 was woefully incomplete).
