Re: Holds.

Yeah, they do. And unless there's some form of artificial effectiveness applied, the better player can just negate them.

Not sure how I feel about that possibility. Climbing the ranks should make the game harder, because the opponents are harder. Not make the game harder, because your character is less effective with the same inputs.

Exactly !!! :)

But like I said... iknow so little about it... and IGN might not be explain it properly...

Luckily a playable build is confirmed to be available at E3... It would be great for the community to get their hands on it and give feedback.

I love the power blow system, seeing it go will be frustrating.

Perhaps the four hit string will be chosen from a pool, making it a bit like the AI controlling the player character for you? That could work. No artificial difficultly added to holding the moves... Just a string from a set of strings that the more experienced player should recognize, anyway.

Then it's up to them to deal with it, without the lesser experienced player having to have that depth of knowledge to compete?

What I loves most about Power Blows was playing Chicken with them...

The mechanic was most exciting when used Raw...

No Critical Burst or Ceiling Toss.

@ninemil
I suppose...

Okay here's something that bugs me...

Were the the commands in DoA 5 so difficult that it warranted this system ?

I have a cousin who genuinely struggled with inputs like 3P or 1K... but thats because he never played any fighting game on a controller before.

I myself struggled with 66 & 44 inputs because I first started playing DoA on the Analogue Thumb Stick.

Oh and to this day I know a sizeable amount of people who occasionally mess up 33 inputs... but that one is trickier to talk about...

I don't honestly know. I've never struggled with them - I main Leifang, and some of her's are horrible - but I do have friends that simply can't complete the combo challenges. Even the easy ones, like Hitomi.

I don't know how much they datamine. Perhaps they can see the avg complexity of our strings, etc?

I feel like the commands are fine, and power blows are not difficult to execute in the first place. Getting rid of them is a mistake.

Yup, but hopefully the critical burst system gets removed in 6, im not a huge fan of it

Yeah I tried to coach my cousin through Hitomi's challenge...

LoL... he fizzled out challenge number 3... and getting there took over 20 Minutes...

I'm a terrible coach.

I don't see what the difference is between "one button" and how it is now. Like doing a power blow by pressing L1 is so different from pressing back+L1? That just seems like nitpicking. The effectiveness of the move is what's really important not the input
ninemil
ninemil
The thing with Power Blow, @Giannola is that the downplayer practically has to have lost to use it.

Fatal Rush will be available from the beginning of the fight, with Break Blow/Hold available after a number of hits landed.

@Giannola
Its not one button Power Blows... its one button Game Play... this means combos (Fatal Rush) and holds (Break Holds) too

If this were Tekken or Street Fighter I wouldn't batt an eyelash because combos in those games are single player mini games anyway... making it one button changes nothing...

But in DoA... its going to have a very different effect

Deffo, @Lulu - having an F+ chucking out, say, an A/S player's combo knowledge on one button will be an eye opener. Plus Break Hold sounds frustrating. DoA4 frustrating.

Hopefully the meter is deep, and takes a while to fill, and that blocked hits don't charge it.

Actually IGN said that the Meter does build up for blocking attacks...

Which I'm all for since my friends never block...

But it also builds up for both taking damage and inflicting damage.

So now I guess how everyone feels about it depends on the ratio of how fast each method builds up the break gauge
ninemil
ninemil
Oh no - I meant I hope it doesn't build for the player who's hit is blocked. Being able to wail on someone, and then unleash the meter when the other guy blocked everything correctly, would be silly.

LoL... Damn Straight !!!

Perhaps they can do what Fantasy Strike does and have the Meter Build Up semi-independently.

Normally it builds up on a Timer... and the speed it builds up is character dependent...

However it can be built up manually by performing Its version of Throw Teching (Yomi Counters)...

Naturally Alpha's Break Gauge should build up the fastest.
