Probably a number of factors involved. Sometimes romance can create a fandom outside of games which I think romance works best there since fans can come up with their own that can be much better than the actual romance that the game gives them. Maybe poor written romance can be a win-win in this situation, I haven't thought about that one now that I think about it.

Well that's if they atleast try which they really haven't, but yeah Shippers tends to make up stories. I just don't want a situation where a character suddenly end up with another because reasons. Like if suddenly, Hayate ended with Momiji during the timeskip we don't see.

In other words, why do you believe that romance in particular is so vital to "most" stories?

Mainly so we the audience can experience the type of connection from the characters that would eventually would end up together. Making the relationship believable and not out of nowhere just because the author wants them to. Now it doesn't have to be the standard "date" where they go out to a theme park or something. It can be it's own way on how character's can get to know each other more.

That explains "what" you believe constitutes a well-written relationship, not "why" it's important for most stories in the first place. The primary theme of most stories is not tied to romantic relationships, so even if you "experience[d that] type of connection from the characters," that's not necessarily an important element for the respective story.

Constantly most stories develop mostly about friendships and so little of romance. It's gotten to the point where most people take certain friendship moments as romantic moments or any other moment that involves characters talking and people automatically "SHIP IT". Or that whenever something ends, we see certain characters "be a couple" without hints or moments that suggest it. Like Goku and Chichi as an example.

While I'm unclear on whether you are putting value/importance on pseudo-romance or strictly canon romance, the more pressing question is: why are either important? I understand they are common. I have yet to see why they are inherently important.

Romance also affects the character itself. In some ways, it could help the character develop and mature. Whether it be a fulfillment or a heart break that could lead to another event. It explores more of the character's feeling. The emotions that reflect on those feelings. Makes the character more human since most of us felt this at one point of our lives. Not just an overgrown kid, or one track minded person-

It can accomplish that. Lots of other things can, too. There is nothing unique about romance in that respect.
For example, it would be like if I said that parenthood is important for most stories. It can be, even in stories where it isn't the primary focus of the narrative or theme. It can add dimensions and relatability to characters and all that.

But to suggest that it's important for "most stories" is just not true, since most stories don't require that element to present compelling characters or themes that resonate with an audience. However, most stories don't feel compelled to integrate an obligatory parenthood story, and people don't seem to think that parenthood belongs in most all stories, unlike romance.

It's that distinction that more often causes romance to be a detriment to story-telling rather than a boon. People assume it's an essential, when it's rarely ever even beneficial. As such, I'd argue that not only is it not "important" to "most stories," but is in fact more frequently harmful than important.

Hmm, from your point of view it seems mainly just those who generally don't care for it more so of romance not being needed.Honestly anything can harm story if it isn't written well. Thing is, not many actually try and some admittedly stated that they suck at it.

But anyone who doesn't like it or don't care for it won't have to worry. Especially in most fighting games about romance since I mentioned that fighting games don't really focus on the story. Same with certain other games.
