The competitive scene is barely even a fraction of the fanbase. I'm talking about the true fans of the series. Those who have made Tecmo a lot of money by supporting the DOA brand. You don't have to be competitive in the game to support and like the product.

so fighting game players aren't true fans of the series? That's dirty.

"True fans?" lol. Silly statements are silly. Am I not a true fan just because I care about tournaments?

Anyway, I was just commenting on you calling out the "american fgc" specifically, since there isn't a competitive scene anywhere in the world as far as I'm aware.

Well there is a difference between "Players" and "Fans"

    Players

*Plays the game on a competitive level and don't give a dayum about the offline content.
*Only cares about how the game plays at a competitive level.
*And spends the bulk of their game play experience playing other people.

    Fans

    *Play the game for fun.
*Care about the offline modes and content.
*Don't really care how the game plays on a competitive level.
    * Are the reason the game sells so many copies.
*Invests in the series as a whole. And supports the product because they love it.

Most of the fan base are fans or a combination of fan and player. From my experience of being both a fan and a player the fans invest more financiallly and emotionally in the series than the players do. Players primarily care about the fighting aspect of the game. The fans care about the game, the characters, as well as the fanservice. Fans buy and support not just the DOA fighting games but the DOAX Volley ball games, models, figures, and other merchandise.

Many in the competitive scene don't appreciate or value the contribution of the DOA fan base as a whole. The fan base is what allows the game to continually get produced and made in the first place. Other fighting games no longer exist because their fan base died.DOA's fan base is very strong.

I never said you personally. So I don't know why you are getting all butt hurt.
I'm calling out the american FGC as a whole not just the american DOA FGC.

What an arbitrary, horrible definition of a fan. By your definition, I, a person that owns every DoA, bought DoA5 on both consoles, and will be playing it until DoA6, am not a fan of the game.

Why do so many people think disagreeing on the internet = butthurt/angry/whatever? I'm commenting on what you posted.

You didn't say me, but your description includes me. I am, afterall, a part of the American FGC and the American DoA FGC. I don't give a shit about single player content, and apparently that means I'm not a "true" fan of the series, whatever that means.

How about you stop bandying about imaginary definitions of made up groups.

Probably because you say things with which I disagree? Honestly didn't know who you were until you mentioned "again."

lol @ facts. I guess your definition of facts is as proper as your definition of a "true fan."

The true fans are the people who love DOA and aren't buying DOA5 until it's finished, which is a time that has not come to pass as of yet.

You are free to disagree just back up your opinion with something more than a snide remark. I just call things like I see them. If you don't like it well it sucks to be you. I don't set the standards or define anything. The FGC sets their own standards and culture. And a half of it I don't agree with or find discriminatory. But that's me.

The players are the very reason why "this game" in particular is as good as it is in comparison to all of the pre-demos and betas. If it were not for the players giving numerous amounts of feedback to Tecmo about how this game is, Dead or Alive 5 would be one crappy ass fighter in general (we all know what numerous issues there were in the betas).

You can't seriously say that fans are the main reason why this series (or other fighting game series for that matter) is what keeps the games producing. Fans are not why games recieve balance updates, the players are. Games such as fighters are sold very well because of both fans of the series and the players. There is no "Fans > Players" or "Players > Fans". It has to be a balance of both. There are too many games out there that make great of examples of what I'm talking about, fighters, sports, shooters alike.

Most of the people that have been playing this series for so long are a combination of a fan and a player (and that list is too damn long to name). I know I'm definitely both. Yeah this game has a larger fan base than an actual player base. But with DOA5 being a solid fighter, the player base can potentially increase. Especially when other players can demonstrate how well this game actually is.

Wow....so you're streotyping....wow..just wow dude....that is kind of assholish...not every FG player thinks that way. The same goes for a fan too. I know casual SC players who love high level SC player. Also some benefited from becoming a more serious game with depth. Hell Namco, for example, is making a push for an EVO spot next year for TTT2. Even NRS understands how important those players are.

So please take your stereotypes and generalizations somewhere else dude.
