What steps are you taking to improve the netcode in DOA6 compared to previous DOA games?

YS: There’s a technical specialist on the team that’s actually working on [the game specifically] for the netcode. The programmer is very confident about this, just saying, “Leave it to me!”

So they've got a single person working on the netcode. I think we can rule out cross play right now based on that alone. Oh well... Anyway, I'm still rather concerned about the netcode. It's easy to say "improve it" and not give any actual feedback. But I don't think these devs over in Japan with their 1gbps+ connections understand just how bad the internet is in America and other places. I captured my attempts to watch the Evo stream last night.

I noticed watching Japanese players stream DOA home sessions that their connection quality bar can actually go up to 5. I didn't even know it went that high! I thought it was 1-4 with 4 being a perfect connection that was impossible to get. I've never seen a 4 outside of the character select screen, actual in-game connections are typically 1, 2 or 3.

What has your personal experience been with the netcode?

I don't think improved netcode will really make a difference tbh. You can have the best netcode in the world but thats not gonna help anything if players are still using WiFi rather than wired connections when playing with people from different regions

Well, Wi-Fi affects (or doesn't) your connection regardless of what region you play with.
Anyway, I feel you're being maximalist with your sentiment. Just because there will be people with garbage connection doesn't mean your experience playing with everyone else should also be garbage. There are many players with whom you'll play just fine, and it's only a good thing if there will be more of them.

Speed doesn't matter.
But it usually correlates with general quality when we compare different countries and regions, if only because both speed and ping depends on good network infrastructure. Which may be there or not, for various reasons.

I'm just happy that they're at least trying to make improvements for the netcode. All we can do is have faith.
I hope as well. Over recent years the sentiment that "playing FGs online is a joke anyway" was going in decline as we've started to see things like netcode of Skullgirls and KI, then unprecedented case of complete re-write of netcode for MKX, all the while most of the rest of devs began to quietly work on their own netcodes and/or using rollback libraries. At this point it would be strange to me if even devs from Arcadeland will ignore the trend.

Yes, I'm using horrible stereotypes. Bite me.

Idk what you're getting at, I never said that if you have a garbage connection then the other person should also have a garbage connection xD

I have no idea how did you get something like that from my post.
What I was saying is that just because there will be people with bad connection from their side doesn't mean it's not worth having decent netcode to make sure that your gameplay experience isn't garbage against people with reasonable network setups.

In recent past many FGs were providing shit online experience simply because netcode wasn't up to the task of connecting people across the world. Since then several devs have shown us that it's entirely possible to have satisfying, if not perfect, cross-continental gameplay. I sure hope DoA6 will follow suit.

You say that, but a 1 bar connection on PC is quite often better than a 4 bar on PS4. It's that significant.

I thought we were speaking only of ps4 connections? I know PC is generally better than console games connection wise, it's why all the high level players and most players in general prefer PC because the netcode or connections are better, that in itself is imo a different league then discussing console netcode since its different than PC netcode connections

The PS4 is not locked to subpar netcodes, nor is the PC automatically better with it. It's a choice from the time the game is initially programmed.

PC version came later and was based off Arcade network version, so it was different.

Cygnis uses wifi quite often when we play on PC and I don't even notice. But the PS4 version handles it completely differently, and if someone uses wifi on there you might as well just quit. Dropping packets left and right.

I hope they'll implement the arcade network version in DOA6 then since I want to play on ps4 but when I see players like you and other high level players on PC with these constant good connections I be wanting to get PC knowing I can't afford any top of the line graphics card stuff xD

The PC version has its own weird issues and network bugs, like the earthquake screen crash thing. The quality of life is so much better though, you hardly care.

DOA 6 supposedly has the PC as the lead development system and everything is being made at the same time. You don't know until its out, but in theory there should mostly be parity, excluding input delay from console hardware itself. Since they brought in a specialist just for DOA 6, I imagine we will see a new type of netcode entirely.

Better save your pennies. I would recommend either in Intel i7 7700K or a AMD Ryzen 7 2700K for your first gaming PC.

I'm not gonna do any gaming on PC myself tbh, console is way more simplistic and less tedious for me than buying all these parts and cards to make my PC fighting games run at full speed. I'm just gonna hope and pray DOA6 is decent connection wise so PC and console can at least be level or near level connection wise xD

I do pay for my online subscription tho xD(Tho not atm since until my dad's alimony checks start coming in I can't switch providers so no point having ps+ atm) Plus DOA5LR did have a couple of benefits from not being the PC version. We get lobbies and don't have to risk our rank everytime we wanna play with friends and we can buy DLC separate rather than in packs, and we don't have to deal with that silly Hayabot thing that reads your inputs. But PC overall gets the better arcade network hardware so it's double edged whichever way you go tbh

You can buy a prebuilt gaming PC. That's what I did l0l
