Feature Request Using animated gifs as avatar.

I asked Matt about this last night and he told me to make a thread and that he'd look into it. I'm personally looking to use a specific animated gif I've been using as avatar everywhere since forever. It's not heavy and very small so it wouldn't be an annoyance for anyone.

I'm leaving the thread open for everyone to make an opinion about adding animated gifs as avatar.

hmmm sounds interesting, but wouldn't that make the site a bit laggy?

That's the only thing that worries me. The one I want to use is really, really light and I'm sure it wouldn't cause any problems but I can't speak for the rest of the members.

Then just limit the file size on GIFs to a reasonable amount.

The issue is not an issue about file sizes, that can be easily controlled. The issue is that by default the forum code does not render an animated GIF as an avatar. It will take a lot of research to look into this.

No, what I meant was, if and when it does get implemented, his concern was of pages lagging to high heaven due to too many GIFs, which is why I said what I did.
