Developer Epic Games revealed their Unreal Engine 5 for next-gen PS5 & Xbox Series X consoles slated to release in the holiday season 2020. What do you think of it? Should it be used with next-gen fighting games or should an in-house engine be developed or used like what Team NINJA does with the Dead or Alive series? Numerous fighting games adopted UE4 (or UE3) this gen such as Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, SoulCalibur VI, Guilty Gear Xrd, Injustice 2, Mortal Kombat XI, Samurai Shodown and more recently Granblue Fantasy Versus to name a few. A large concern to keep in mind is the effect on performance with the console versions of fighting games, since Unreal engines are generally optimised for PC and not as effective on consoles in comparison.
