The last session looked at guarding. Session #2 of the SCVI Beginner guide looks at more defensive techniques. If you block too much in SoulCalibur VI, your guard gauge will flash red meaning that you're vulnerable to being Guard Crushed by a strong strike. To protect yourself when blocking is not necessarily optimal, there are numerous techniques to assist you: Guard Impacts, Reversal Edges and the metered GI's: Resist Impacts. GI's and RE's drain your guard stamina, but of course can protect you from getting guard bursted, while shifting the momentum in your favour. Resist Impacts preserve you guard stamina, but cost half-a-bar of soul gauge meter instead.

Use GI's as your general purpose parries against all normal attacks except break attacks and unblockables. Use Reversal Edge for similar purposes, but for when you need a parry with a larger window. If you initiate Reversal Edge, you'll have the advantage in the Rock-Paper-Scissors mini-game. Remember: A-K-B-A is the attack priority. If your guard gauge is flashing red, use Resist Impacts to protect your self from break attacks and unblockables on top of all highs, mids, lows, and throws. Note that all the defensive parry options can be blown up by a break attack for lethal hit damage. This includes the Resist Impact; if you miss the timing on the parry, a break attack could punish you for a lethal hit launch.
