    The whole 2 games not doing Paid DLC Characters were around a time when SFXT was getting negative attention, and players were complaining the fact that characters behind the disc were payable DLC characters. Even TTT2 provided extra characters for free, which became the lowest selling Tekken game to exist.

    Dead or Alive without Itagaki is like The SIMS without Will Wright, getting games that most feel soulless after their departure and only made to milk a franchise.


    Playing a remastered NGΣ2 or TS1 and TS2 in 2025 comes with a bitterweet feeling, as you experience the peak era again.

    IMO the only good Itagaki DOA games were 3 and 2 and that's pretty much only because he had infinite budget and time to make those. I would agree that Ninja Gaiden is arguably worse without his team though

    Shimbori had been working on this IP since 2004 (around the DOA Ultimate days), yet he completely missed the point of it with DOA6, trying hard to rebrand it with that ill-advised esport direction.
    Part of me wants DOA7 to be announced so bad, but at the same time I just don't wish to witness this franchise bite the dust the way it did with DOA6 should someone as senseless as Shimbori be in charge of it again.

    Watching other 3D fighters take inspiration from what DOA does best without actually getting a new DOA game that shows them how it's done is forever frustrating.

    With the whole "DOA's long-running issues are quite frankly because of Itagaki.", this should be a proper point where there should be a 2nd Fighting Game IP that has DOAs Controls, Mechanics, & Stage Hazards but doesn't have Characters or Costumes, and isn't called Dead or Alive. Which that 2nd Fighting Game can easily go for their Mature Approach or go for FGC/Mainstream Audience, leave DOA JP/Asia Only.

    Ironically, Itagaki made XBV to keep the more sexy ideas out of the main game, but the gaming public & FGC decided it brought down the main series by association anyways. I think the most damage came from the western advertising. As far as TN's devs themselves go, the time they pushed the sexiness in the main series the most was the DOA5 years & it was ironically one of the times it was taken most seriously as an FG.

    Although Itagaki made decisions still questionable to this day when he had full control of the series he birthed, his legacy remains undisputed with most of the best DOA games ever made.

    Props to Team Ninja for making Mai Shiranui look the best she ever could in a fighting game to this day without even trying.

    Praying wholeheartedly PRISM will not be successful so that TN reconsiders what both DOA and Xtreme were about in the first place.

    The worst thing to happen was DOA6 because of games direction with the developers going with less sexualized approach with a focus on EVO/eSports, listening to people who wanted a "cooler approach" like Shimbori did when he went to EVO17 & certain FSD Members (according to Rob when I was glad Shimbori was gone when he went to work with Tekken 8)...

    And lets not forget the modifications done to Rachel's Fiend & Phase 4 Arnice Transformation where 1 outfit had its skin covered instead of expose, and another outfit that was removed. DOAXVV was a pallet cleanser along with being the game what DOA6 should've been. What DOA franchise should be about in the first place is sex appeal, then the timeline would 100% heal recapture DOA5 & DOAXVV success.

    I concur, in short DOA is first and foremost a fighter that is accessible but very technical on many aspects, with breathtaking visuals and whose characters are mainly known for being hot. As simple as that.
    TN persists in shifting the focus going on completely different routes right after all the profit they made with DOA5 just a few years ago, making every other fan scratch their head in the process.

    PRISM's existence alone as a new DOA entry is tarnishing DOA's reputation for good.
    But let us all be thankful to Sakuda for not including Marie Rose, Kanna or Koharu in the base roster for obvious reasons.

    It's the type of game where at a couple peak times of the day, you'll get a lobby going for a while until it collapses and matches simply cannot be found for hours. I think that speaks for itself. Not saying folks can't play what they like but its clear things ended the way they did for a reason.

    Knew DOA6 would be another unfinished mess of a game (just like DOA5LR lazy PC port) the day it was announced Tag Battle and Team Fight modes would be removed for the sake of visual and graphics enhancement (lame excuse).
    Everything about this game started going downhill afterwards.

    Sakuda must be very proud of his character creations.
    At this point, it would have been better to dissociate Dead or Alive from Venus Vacation.

    If Kasumi that is the face of DOA is not in it, that's going to be the last nail in the coffin.

    Wish to be in awe of DOA again.
    Wondering why we're getting this Unreal Engine-looking mediocrity in 2025, 6 years after DOA6, when we could have had Nioh 2's type of artsyle that is graphically on a whole other level of gorgeous.
    NPCs in that game look better than the above ventriloquist.

    Just be realistic when TN had us lower our expectations on a regular basis with every DOA game released over the past few years.
    The downfall started with DOAX3 as we got a half-done game with missing features plus an incomplete roster.
