This thread feels like reading a book with every other page ripped out. I feel like I'm missing something.

If all I had to play was DoA, this community would probably A) Make me cry, B) make me pull my hair out, or C) make me break my keyboard. Lucky me.

I don't believe that's what I said. If this game had a complex movelist and the shitty stun system, it would be a shitty fighter that I had to practice to play well. If that were the case, I wouldn't play it at all as it is pointless to invest any amount of time trying to take this game seriously.

I think DoA5 is a horrible, terrible COMPETITIVE fighting game. It is, however, fun to fuck around with since it requires little execution or practice and I can just jump online without worrying about things like that. It's pretty much just knowledge of characters, and you get that by playing.

That's what happens when you go to a fan site of a bad game. People play it and talk about why they think it's bad. It'd be constructive criticism, except Team Ninja doesn't do much with the criticism.

Why do so many people on this site say: Play another game. As if it's not evident that people are playing other games.

Your analogy is flawed, because if you choose rock instead of scissors in SF, SC, VF, Tekken, Skullgirls, Mortal Kombat, Blazblue (burst permitting, but those can be baited), etc, etc. You are getting hurt. Your opponent has an opportunity to perform a combo on you without interruption or fear...

One can have played DoA without bothering to learn the terminology. I call holds counters. I don't refer to natural combos as 2-in-1s. I think the phrase slow escape is stupid. I think the DoA terminology is silly. And even if they don't play it based on reputation, I have the same complaints...

It's not holds that make DoA unique. It's the broken stun system. Stop acting as if the stun system has always been as stupid as it has been in the past two games. Was DoA1 not DoA somehow? DoA2? DoA3? DoA is still DoA without the dumbass stun system which is actually the point of contention...

I'm going. Have my flight and room booked. Would definitely enter a DoA side tourney, and would love to get as many games as possible in wherever I can.

DoA had its chance. Team Ninja decided to listen to the wrong people. All this will do is make it more or less enjoyable for the niche that will continue playing it either way.
