Yep...to an extent. It's not exactly laid bare but it's more you have to look at forums and websites so you can figure out some of the craziness the game has despite being stiff and being ported years after it was released in Japan. You also have to remember that past Kagura, these are BUDGET...

The timer means jack, I even thought the same way you did. You can easily do all 5 main quests within 2 DAYS. And even grinding for abilities isn't too difficult either and stuffing 50 quests is easily done within the alloted time. Pretty much, you have all the time in the world to do 50 quests...

That's why you don't play the game that way. Doing Side Quests here and there is actually the best way rather than do every sidequest available over and over. It saves you plenty of brain power and makes it easier to grind your ass off.
