DOA6's launch has been a complete train wreck. I;m surprised that he hasnt been concussion kicked from the company.
LOL, you can not tell launch that is not groundbreaking success from trainwreck. Let me show you couple of real trainwreck launches: FIGHTING EX LAYER and SNK HEROINES Tag Team Frenzy . DOA6 is doing relatively fine.
Sure, the game had a false start, but these things can be easily fixed if the new director has a creative mind:
- Free patch to add additional stages (Road Rage at night, bottom level of the Colosseum, Colosseum at night, the street stage during day). This shouldn't be hard to pull off considering they're already in the game.
- Porting over DLC assets from DOA5LR to be purchased with in game currency and making them available to all females/males.
- A new free DLC release to promote lobby matches. Give fighters their classic outfits like they did for DOA5 and recycle the circus stage from DOA5 with new lighting etc.
- Release the wrestling pre-order DLC as free content in June like how they managed the Tekken Tag 2 character DLC, along with Phase-4 and Nyotengu.
- Those who have purchased these DLCs beforehand get:
- Exclusive titles
- Exclusive recolours
- Special ranking assigned (like a Purple A)
- Free tokens to purchase future DLC.
- Allow individual DLC purchases.
Done. Fix all that shit by July. Make this the next big patch. It isn't unreasonable to pull off.
Get everyone on the even playing field again.
That's the most important thing.
They need to focus on clearing up the existing ISSUES before releasing more DLCS and all that jazz. They can delay the Season Pass contents for all I care. They've already delayed the game once. Having these DLC deadlines to attend to whilst neglecting other issues isn't going to work for them.
DELAY THE FUTURE DLCS AND LISTEN TO GAMER FEEDBACK FIRST.
That would get some momentum going again until DOA6 Ultimate.
1. DOA6 launch was not a false start. TN implemented all the essential features, released the game and announced update plans. If we look at weeks after DOA6 launch it is easy to see that TN is actively working on at least two DOA6 branches and another branch is most likely waiting for platform holders' approval. This and patch notes show that TN is not only working on DLC but also is fixing issues and developing new features. It is a right way to release a software product today. DOA6 launch shows that Shimbori is a good modern producer.
2. So you say that giving away some big dumb dump of freebies and carrying crap from previous iteration is "the most important thing"? That giving early adopters exclusive bling would "get everyone on the even playing field"? Are you nuts? Look at SC6: highest spike in players count post launch was right after 2B's release and nobody noticed Amy. So the most important thing now is to make DOA6 bigger and bolder, to create stuff that will wow people, not some existing-stage-but-at-night crap only digital hoarders care about.
It feels like Shimbori is out of ideas now. If you look through DOA newcomers: Naotora, Mai, Diego, NiCO - IMO they all lack something, some spark. Unforgettable stage is not only stroll down the memory lane but also glimpse of opportunities lost, sad bunch of quiet "if only"-ies. It shows me that DOA6 needs new director, somebody who can came up with seemingly crazy stuff even I cann't dream of. For example person who proposed first frames of BB to be Hold. Here is to new DOA6 director! Thing big, break couple of things, excite us!
