Koei Tecmo Collaborates with Bandai Namco's Tekken Franchise

Koei Tecmo is partnering with Namco Bandai publicly for the first time in fighting game history that can only be colored as a controversial relationship between not only the competition of companies but also disdain between the Dead or Alive & Tekken player base. This partnership is between Atelier Yumia & Tekken 8 and while there are few details on what this collaboration will entail this could explain Dead or Alive 6's reused assets that were implemented into the Tekken 8 system. Surprised?

UPDATE NOTICE: THE DLC PACK WILL INCLUDE ACCESSORIES AND EXTRAS FOR TEKKEN 8 PLAYERS. THE PACK IS SET TO BE FREE TO ALL PLAYERS. WE WILL SHOWCASE THE ITEMS RELEASED IN OUR POPULAR TEKKEN THREAD. THANKS.

This unexpected partnership could change the game on many levels. It's more possible than ever before that we could see special guest characters from DOA in Tekken. Perhaps it would even open the door for a Dead or Alive X Tekken game. All of these different mysteries and delicate situations that have been happening since the downfall of Dead or Alive 6 are starting to make more sense to the public and especially to the FGC as a whole.

Did Yohei Shimbori create a bridge of interaction within the conglomerates as he proceeded to leave Team NINJA to work on Tekken 8? Does this explain why so many comparisons have been drawn between the latest 3D fighter and DOA6? Does it explain why Dead or Alive assets have been used in Tekken 8? From character poses and costume ideas to environmental animation there has been a questionable amount of DOA-like content added to not just the system, but overall content adaptation to Tekken 8.

This announcement may not excite those that don't give a damn about Atelier, which is actually a fantastic and underrated RPG franchise by Koei Tecmo's Gust, but this should be seen as the biggest community surprise since Katsuhiro Harada recently talked about positive interaction with Tomonobu Itagaki or the departure of Shimbori from Team NINJA Studios. Can you think of a better way to expose the DOA franchise on a worldwide, global scale than DOA x Tekken?

Now is the time as DOA players to make our voices known now that we know a relationship between both companies is intact. Team NINJA is starting to branch out their franchises to other developers such as NINJA Gaiden 4 with Platinum games and NINJA Gaiden: Ragebound being developed by Game Kitchen. Let's not forget that Fumihiko Yasuda himself said he wanted to zoom in on Team NINJA's legacy franchises and that he was open to extending these classic series to other developers or new teams to make sure that releases happen, and moneymaking franchises aren't left dormant.

This is a surprise for Tekken 8 but not surprise for KT having collaboration with Bandai Namco flagship IP. (Do you remembered that Tales of Arise was also collaborating with Atelier Sophie 2?) Anyway, I don't know why I'm excited.

That is true, but the DLC was a very miniscule offering and didn't amount to much or get a lot of reach as Ryza had become the new shiny toy. Two or three years ago you may have had a hunch, but now it would seem the evidence is irrefutable. Koei Tecmo and Bandai Namco are getting along, even in the fighting game market side of things.

I think that's a good reason to get excited.

It's actually been a while of both getting back working together which is pretty cool. Last time KT worked with Namco was Sophitia making it in Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate I think? (?).

Cool news. Might be the bridge for amazing future stuff.

According to Harada, he has this weird philosophy of currently only choosing games that are being officially supported at the moment, a philosophy he somewhat brought up for T8 mind you. The likelihood of DOA getting picked is still rather slim since DOA isn't even supported at the moment, least the fighting game versions.

DOA in the long run is still possible though since KT opened the doors for it via Atelier, but DOA getting picked in itself is still a stretch unless DOA has a game incoming (which does not afaik, not counting Prism).

Yeah it'd be cool if Harada used the opportunity to help give games that need it a leg-up.

If it's gonna be a Team Ninja IP then maybe it's a Ninja Gaiden collab? Pretty much Ryu, maybe? I mean, I doubt it's some random VV girl, lol.

I'm in the minority on this opinion, but I am vehemently against the idea of a DOA/Tekken crossover.

I'd sooner want a full-scale crossover between DOA and VF.

KT choose yumia rather than prism to collab with tekken 8 because tekken 8 is for global release.

KT is ok with this though

Still uneasy about this whole thing. This is Yohei Shinbori we are talking about. I m still haunted by the whole doa6 story which has been popping out a lot. To the point that even VF5 R.E.V.O.L.T.I.N.G is affected. >.<

I'll believe it when I see change.
