The Shining Wizard

Ok...I used to think this was another stupid waste of a move, until by accident I managed to perform it on a wiffed WUK.

I have since been about 70% effective using it with that sole purpose. Unfortunately the spacing required to run must be at minimum distance for a run to be successful. Anything larger invites getting a jab in the face.

That being said, where else can this be used?

I am hit or miss using it after doing (P)KP vs the AI. It never works online unfortunately. I am thinking that some of Tina's throws ( i.e. 44T) Might allow it, but more often than not it will turn into an OH ( either Rodeo if they turn around, or whatever that full suplex is from behind).

Any one else find any uses for the Shining Wizard?

There is no such thing as an iSW in this game, but you can get a quick run at very close range.

The way you do it is to perform a quick 66/ff while holding the second input, get close to the opponent and notice the stance change animation when you collide with an opponent. The game thinks you are running so it will give you access to running moves, making close shining wizard possible.

The timing is not as strict as iSW, but you need to perform the running throw when you notice the recovery of the animation.

To get the timing down, an Tina do :P::K: to get a slight distance, then buffer a run at that same distance and input throw at different times to get the timing down. You get best result when both her feet are parallel and she's about to take a step. That's the closest you can be in order to do a quick shining wizard in this game, but I mostly recommend doing it from neutral positioning whenever you reset positions in practice mode.

Shining wizard is really good especially against the wall, even though I more prefer Bass' main because you can't tech the throw. It still looks pretty cool.

Hmmmm....... the AI would never give me a chance to pull that move off.....
Hey guess which character specialises in Breaking into a sprint in short distances:
:La Mariposa:
Yep its Tina's tag team buddy.

Perhaps you can hone your technique with her than somehow transfer it back to :tina:

These characters have completely different applications and ways of getting into run in the first place and they also play very different.

Thank you U.K....I have tried your way but its been slow going. I do see the day I get it down and it becomes a viable strategy. Unfortunately my online friends now are expecting it which is making it even harder to pull off. :*(

Don't rely on the shining wizard other than a two way guessing choice and mix it up with mids to force your friends to evades, mainly because it's not a catch throw. If you're far away, know that 66p+k can be viable as a long range tool. Then you can condition someone to not press buttons. Tina has good mids and you should use them too.

If you're interested I discovered I setup for Tina's Shining Wizard.

Okay so this is how it goes:

If you can land Tina's (:P:):K::K: at the critical threshold then you can knock them down and dash in for the Ground throw..... thats your primary desired out come.....if they Tech Up then you can condition them to not Whack a button by attacking them when they get up since Tina's at advantage..... thats the contigency plan for not getting the ground throw.....

And last but not least once you've got them on the defensive you're free to go for the Shining Wizard (which I wish had 3 active frames to mess up Fuzzy Guarders). As long as your in open space then the distance is perfect for Shining Wizard.

BTW I discovered that if the opponent does not tech after getting hit by the Shining Wizard then you get a free Arm Grab on the ground.

If you have any Throw related teck then please share...... getting throws with Tina is very difficult.

I discovered another Setup for the Shining Wizard..... :4::6::P:.....

Specifically you'l want use that on Airborne Opponents as a Juggle Ender And you'l want to specifically use it in Open Spaces after juggling with :6::P::P::6::K:. Unfortunately this is weight Specific.... so some experimenting is required.

Anyway the idea is is you knock them back with :4::6::P: then immediately chase after them.... if they don't Tech.... you get a free :2::H+P: or maybe even a Force Tech. If they do tech roll the Knock Back then you can attemp a Shining Wizard.... classic Run up and throw.

Unfortunately even though this can happen quickly the Opponent Will be outside of Tina's comfort zone so its very risky.

Ahhh I found a new set up for The Shining Wizard..... and this one is the best one by Far. :)

Its actually pretty simple.... just use the Drop kick then Run Cancell it like this :6::6::K::6_: Then run up and Throw. Its works on Block and on Hit and since :honoka: is not a Grappler you don't even have to condition it. Just do it... ;)

Shining wizard works best when you read your opponents tendencies when you approach in a run and when you can tell they are going to wiff a move at a distance that will have a decent amount of lag which often results in a cautionary block.

A good example of the last point is a jan lee playing footsies with his mid kick, just as its ending and out of reach run and from a distance start the throw.

Another is a good way to punish charge hits on wiff or charge up.

If you mix up your roll + hk, and 66p+k, along with run and 3k, and run into arrow kick, you will be amazed how many will try to sidestep or block on approach.

If you have a person who likes to jab as you approach a run into 46T or a run+p at the right distance will crush it.

I have also found that it often hits when dealing with people who force tech at short-mid range, especially if they tech a pkT by some miracle.
