I thought we watched movies to be empowered.

Yeah I haven't wanted to watch a movie in 8 Years...

Also how will I know if I genuinely want to watch a movie if I haven't watched it yet ... ?

Yeah I just watched it in cinema a little while ago, It really was great, definitely my favorite out of the Marvel Universe movies they're making.

And lol lulu you don't need to be actively watching a movie or watched it before to know you want to watch it, I've never seen the new Jurassic Park movie that's coming out this year but I know I want to watch it.

LoL.... makes sense on the surface.... but all that really means is you don't really know what you want.

...What lol? XD No, What it means is I want to see the movie, You don't need to know everything about something to want to do it like watching a new movie that's coming out.

LoL... if you don't know whether you'll enjoy the movie or not then how can you be sure if you really want to see that specific movie ?

Plus I'm not saying I want to anything about Black Panther I'm just saying in my experience if everybody's say something is good it will never live up to the Expectations.... I'll watch it when nobody's talking about it any more...

Because I see the trailer, go "that looks good" and then want to go see it, Then I go to the cinema and watch it, Maybe it turns out to be amazing and maybe it turns out to be bad but that doesn't change the fact that I wanted to see the movie.

Its not that simple...

Thats like me saying I want to be a Misanthrope when I don't really know what a misanthrope actually is... I just want to be that because it sounds like a cool word.

I mean there's a big difference though between wanting to list yourself as something of hating humans versus, "Black Panther looks cool, I want to see it in cinema."

LoL... exactly... its not that simple.

Not for me anyways.

To elaborate, the reason Black Panther is empowering to many (and to a greater extent, inspiring) is because it's a well-received film that features a predominantly black cast in a $200+ million film helmed by a black director... a feat that has otherwise been unprecedented in filming history.

Doesn't that mean its ability to empower won't affect everyone ?

I'm black so I honestly can't answer that question.... or to be more specific, my answer wouldn't hold any weight.... so....

"Well-received" - could allegedly matter for one of two reasons.
1) Suggests that the movie is actually good, implying that before Black Panther people thought that black cast/directed movies couldn't be good (hopefully you're not in that crowd).
2) Suggests that critics/public are finally willing to recognize talent from black artists in film (they've been doing that for decades).

"Black director" - This is nothing really new or notable, as there have been plenty of films by black directors that have been well-received by critics before. If the empowering part is supposed to be that Black Panther's budget was hella-high and that it's significant that corporate boys trusted a black person with that kind of investment, that's ridiculous.

The movie-going public generally buys tickets based more on the lead actors than director, and there have been tons of big budget movies starring black men/women.

"$200+ million film"- If you're surprised that Marvel/Disney is willing to pour a lot of financial investment into "progressive" prospects, you've been living under a rock.

Basically, it's sounds like what people consider "empowering" has nothing to do with the actual movie, but rather a perfunctory assessment of its cultural significance, which people only buy into that if they're infatuated with the concept of descriptive representation.

As for Lulu, he's just spouting pseudo-philosophy again. It's supposed to be an exercise in epistemology, but it so thoroughly lacks utility that it essentially digs itself in a hole. For example: "How do you know you really want to do anything until you've done it? (even, say, play a game you've already played, considering you can't perfectly replicate the scenario that occurred before when you enjoyed it)."

You can't, so either use some common sense in interpreting what others mean when they say they want to do something or free yourself from all desires, ditch the computer and go live in a remote village somewhere and leave the poor folks with volition to their devices.

LoL.... I don't want to play a game or watch a movie so much as I want to satisfy my curiosity...

This is essentially what I and I assume everyone else really means when they want to do or see anything they've never seen or done before.
