You have to be willing to lose. You learn a lot faster offline at an event than you do online because people are there who either the same skill level or better. Those players can help you by giving you solid feedback & showing you new things that you might not know.

You not going because you feel someone will be a dick or you going to because you feel that you'll lose is a terrible reason to deprive yourself the opportunity to go, learn, & ultimately meet & hang with new people aka have a good time. It's more to it than going to compete. A lot of the top players are actually very friendly & willing to help.

Don't be afraid to be vulnerable because you don't like losing. Losing is how you get better. Have to be willing to do that. It's part of it. You have to drop that guard & leave it at home on your doorsteps. It's understandable if you can't travel atm because of money. It's life. Do what you can, but please don't put yourself in the mindset that you have to be a god overnight. It takes time.

You get what you put into fighting games. Some players are that good because they've actually been playing previous games or play a lot for a long period of time. So they're prepared & know what to expect, but let them tell you that nerves also can get the best of them at times, too.

You're only setting yourself back by doing this. TOs & security if reported will take care of the people who are there to cause trouble. In fact, they've been doing a good job of it as of late. More importantly, lose before you win.
