I don't like certain games myself & it took me a while to pick on certain 2Ds like anime games. I still played them because they're fun, but eventually learned how to play & catch on. Still no where near at an intermediate level (imo).
Is there a possibility that some people simply don't like 2D fighters or playing them? I have played Street Fighter, Killer Instinct and Anime Fighters, and I honestly get bored of them fairly quickly regardless if I'm good at them or not. There's just elements to 3D fighters that are arguably a lot more engaging.
Partially. It's because 2D fighter's lack the genuine depth and breadth of gameplay that quality 3D fighters have in comparison. 3D fighters also can look more impressive visually on average, with the DOA & SC series in particular looking gorgeous compared to most FG's.
Not that 2D fighters are "ugly" (or easy) per se; Guilty Gear Xrd, Killer Instinct 3 and Injustice 2, for instance, look fantastic visually, but there's just something about 2D fighters that make them appear to advance slower than 3D fighters from a technological standpoint. Doesn't help that SFV & KOF14 were huge misses for me overall.
Yeah but there is a downside to choosing that sort of realistic Aesthetic... These games eventually start to look dated...
Guilty Gear and SSFII HDR don't need to worry about that so long as they keep the edges sharp... although that awful flip book style animation looks outdated right out of the gate.
Every fighting game can look dated with the exception of "sprite-based" games, which permanently look like they're from the 90's. Every other fighting game from the PS2/Generation 6 era looks dated today. It's just the way things are (which is further exacerbated by the increasing of resolutions from 480p/720p/1080p then 4K).
Not really... HD Remix doesn't look as dated as its full 3D Competition...
And once a game reaches 1080p status then dating pretty much won't be an issue for a very long time.... 4K is extremely overrated... it looks great but the leap just looks miniscule for something thats suppose to look 4 Times sharper.
Play on a bigger screen and increase sharpness, the difference between 4K & 1080p will become a lot more apparent as you play more 4K games. I'm completely looking forward to DOA6 in 4K! (and will sample SCVI to see if the resolution can get past 1080p).
I've seen the difference. We've got a 4K TV right here at home...
I'm genuinely not impressed... difference is noticeable... its just not worth the excessive price gap over a solid low latency HD Display.
I don't even need anti-aliasing for 1080p... if I see Jaggies that just means I'm sitting with my eyeballs pressed up against the screen... and I'm not suppose to be that close anyway.
@Force_of_Nature it's fine to say that. That's understandable, but what I'm saying is that it's better to admit that it's not for you (like you did) rather than using the notion of "Good at 3D, not 2D, Good at 2D but not 3D". That's not always the case. Plenty of players can testify to statements like this.
@Force_of_Nature SFV was a miss at launch. People who still say that because they're unhappy with what they did at launch & now it's mainly the questionable patch changes. People are starting to gravitate more towards it now, but the game is the easiest out of all SF's to pick up.
I don’t really get this status if I’m honest. I am a 3D fighter that’s bad at 2D fighting games, it’s not a cop out for not playing it. I play 2D fighters but 3D fighters are for me easier to get into because I’m more used to the free movement 3D fighting games have.
Street Fighter V is caught between an inclusive, accessible fighter and the UBER HARDCORE YOU MUST SUFFER BECAUSE I SUFFERED TO LEARN type of design that makes the game frustrating for all parties involved... including Capcom themselves who have to deal with all the conflicting complaints about the game.
@King Anubis I'm not talking to people like you. You're playing it anyway to have fun. I'm saying for those who say that they don't play for that reason.
And I also explained that it can be seen that way to people who are actually good at multiple games because they could challenge the latter.
I hate that these posts are limited to 420 characters lol. I also stated that anime fighters aren't my thing, but I enjoy watching them & playing to learn & that it's better to say that they aren't your type of thing.
I feel like I'm being misunderstood, so I'll try this. What I'm saying is that rather than saying that you're not good at a certain genre, it's better to say that the genre is not your kind of thing like Force of Nature has said.
That's the only point that I'm trying to make.
