Typical business strat for game companies these days. Release information and generate hype through trailers and stuff and a release date to get people excited, even though they know the finished product won't meet it, so they can make a delay announcement to seem like they're putting even more effort in to get it perfect.
It happens so often these days... in fact I don't think they even planned on releasing it on the original date.
