At Grunt... he made Ninja Gaiden Black. Moving on... Itagaki is a god, he owes no one any explanation. They have the characters he created, he defeated them in court; and they are not friends. There is no good blood to expect praise... but if it wasn't for him there would be NO DOA.
It is definitely true that without him DOA wouldn't exist, but who's to say that whatever games series they made without him would be just as equal as DOA?
I'd thank his team to make the games fun to begin with lol (with all due respect of course).
He could have sold that user up a tree, but he was honest and quick to respond. Felt that Momiji and Rachel were complete characters in NG --some creators move on and the game changed since he was last in it.
I mean just because he created it doesn't mean he was good for the series lol he wanted DOA to be a casual game and not hardcore. Shimbori at least wants to make it more appealing to fighting game fans.
I will always love DOA to the maximum, but the Itagaki part of it is something I would love to see return someday. That man truly knew how to give me what I wanted.
Itagaki spits on casual games... just the Alpha 152 boss alone dismisses that idea. Fighting games were not as popular when DOA4 came out and it was an extremely good product on release. IF he knew FGC would have gotten this big he may have stayed, but he felt DOA4 was a complete fighting game and he picked the right time to be done because he's always honest with himself.
Itagaki also said Bass should never beat a ninja and when he found out how DoA3 was properly being played he made drastic changes to DoA4 giving us the worst DoA ever. I don't really care what Itagaki thinks anymore. He's no longer part of the franchise and he almost killed it.
Even though he's the creator of the series, he just need to shut up with his comments. If he stayed, Momiji and Rachel wouldn't crossover, Kasumi would NEVER be playable in NG, Xtreme would possibly dominated the franchise and oh, DOA wouldn't have anymore sequels. Not to mention Marie Rose and Honoka wouldn't even pass conceptual design.
If you really sit there and count all the additional characters and stages we've gotten since vanilla released, we've nearly gotten two full games out of 5. It doesn't feel all that long as a result.
I find that Itagaki tries too hard at times to remain relevant. Dude's a hack. The best thing to happen to DOA was when he left the company and the franchise continued without him. He thought DOA4.1 was a perfect game...
