Yes. I hate it.

Feels even worse that it's basically superseded the "hack n slash" genre for the most part. Lots of games just wanna be soulsborne clones.

Yeah, like they seem to be games that just don’t want to be completed by the Layman. You noticed Sony exclusives for the most part are almost always beatable and it you want more difficulty you can push it up? FS is fine with niche sales or sales that don’t have a high retention rate of players.Which I kinda wish FGs were like this still

Funny thing is that Sony thought that Demon's Souls was shit, and passed on the project to Atlus (I don't think the Japanese players liked it either IIRC). Then a year after release, Demon's Souls blew up, then of course Sony wanted some of that Soulsborne money with Bloodborne, Nioh, and Demon's Souls remake.

The thing about FGs getting more accessible is in turn, to get more western sales, whilst because Souls Games have a great following in the west, more than JP players actually. They’re okay with it being the same. Since that revenue talks.

I'm sorry, but I NEVER saw the hype in Demon Souls, Dark Souls, or any of its contemporaries. Something about both the gameplay and atmosphere doesn't seem appealing at all.

@Force_of_Nature @Hold_Junkie93 @SaihateDYNAMO Not only that, if it's even true, it's like Konami had to be convinced of something to even think about a new game. The last Castlevania -new- game was in 2014. It took Konami to look at a Souls game just to bring back the series? that sounds messed up yeah.

There was even an article for it back in March:

It's almost as if it went "Konami: Oh wow! the Netflix Castlevania has huge positive reviews. Maybe people do like Castlevania."

"Konami: Ok if that's the case alright hmm.. what's a popular action right now...-types it in Google- Oh Dark Souls, ok."

Bloodborne was the most agreeable FromSoft soulsborne to me (though almost by default). Demon's Souls and Dark Souls just never jived with me. Nioh is amazing because TN knows gameplay and doesn't just focus on making things "hard" (or dumb in the case of Dark Souls 1) for the sake of it.

On a different note, Code Vein's a very fun soulsborne game along with Nioh because it feels like it was made for co-op as opposed to a more aloof experience. With regards to Castlevania, naturally I'd prefer for it to lean towards DMC style gameplay as opposed to Soulsborne gameplay.

I'll say that I did enjoy Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Nioh considering that TN knows what an action game is. Thing is, not every outside series can be turned into it. And then a series continuation will somehow depend on it for no reason. Still not sure as to why Souls-type have to be a main staple for reviving Castlevania games. I'd play this souls-vania if it's true, but the motive behind it for me is pretty suspect.

Agreed. It's jumping on a trend. They're seeing $$$.

@Force_of_Nature On top that for pushing to that specific genre feels forced that companies will just go with

1) If it flops - "Konami: Guess people don't like Castlevania. Back to Pachislot you go". <<< They could of fixed this by simply reverting it to a Metroidvania style again. Symphony of the Night with Alucard was super popular because of it.

Look at Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. A spiritual successor of it as a Metroidvania style. Did pretty well on week release.

2) If it succeeds as a souls game - "Konami: Oh wow! it did well! let's make another souls version". Granted I'll still play it and maybe it'll be a blast, but it's the motive behind it that's just off putting.
