Some people definitely change when they're not the up player anymore. Don't sweat it, and don't look down on his ability any less, or the positive effect having trained against him had on your play.

Just ego is a thing. We all fall foul of it sometime or another. You'll likely be the same at some point with someone else, even if you don't mean to. We're all human, after all.

I hope i dont become like that lmao. honestly i want to be the best, and if i lose that means that person is better than me in some way. so i inturn swear vengeance and will defeat them. it happens all the time. i could have my own anime show if i wanted with all this vengeance. lol

I spent nearly ten years in international level Quake - coached and played for the UK CPM team on a regular basis, for example - and the first thing I learned was that there is *always* someone better than you that you'll never be able to catch up to.

Recognizing that is the most important route to avoiding burn out, as chasing the tails of everyone who shines brighter than you will only ever lead to you exiting the game.

Find your slot, get comfortable with the players directly above and below you, and concentrate on that. Reaching too high ain't healthy. You'll never, ever, be the best. That's just life.

Burn out is the greatest adversary that you'll ever face in a long haul game like this. It took six months to learn CPM movement, and every game I played ended the same way until I did, as I simply couldn't get away when the other guy doubled down the pressure.

Set realistic goals, and reward yourself appropriate when you hit them. Stay focused. Train hard.

Stick to that mind set, and you'll go far. In anything.
