i bought it thinking "okay few characters i'm interested in so i'll give tekken a real chance" after not getting into previous ones. Havent touched it in weeks, now.
It's really straightforward. The point of the game is to set up the opponent to get hit by combo starters for massive damage enough times until they're knocked out. The buttons are just: Left Punch (square), Right Punch (Triangle), Left Kick (X), Right Kick (O). Blocking is done by hitting or holding back or by standing there and doing nothing. Game's a lot less complex than DOA5LR.
^IF you can wrap your head around that whole "one button per limb" thing which is really unusual and screws with muscle memory something fierce. that plus the actual physics in tekken are wonky as fuck, so that's something else to get used to.
i know the basic controls, it just feels weird to press them...
see in doa you do a ppk, you just press ppk along with the animation... in tekken to do like, lp,lp,lk you need to piano those inputs as fast as possible for then the animation to play out, this is too weird to me... and i hate the directional blocking in tekken as well, and how sidestepping works...
I myself love it, it was my main game before I discovered DOA
