Yes, but that doesn't mean that I am beyond understanding the appeal. I don't like harem anime, for example, but I understand how they appeal to a certain audience and satisfy that particular interest. I don't understand the appeal of Tag Fighters, but perhaps that can change with a properly articulated explanation.

I believe the appeal for some lies in seeing rewards reaped for knowing and understanding how to play two completely different characters and utilizing both of their strengths to create a new kind of tech altogether. When combined with mechanics unique to the tag system certain shortcomings from one character can be covered by tagging out another. (cont.)

(cont.) The problem with this is addressing how to balance out tech once it's discovered. And as long as it remains ignored you get a scenario like with DOA5.

I thought about that element, and the appeal of a "customized approach" (such as in MvC), but wouldn't a system akin to Injustice 2 be more engrossing (wherein you can customize certain abilities and stats on a character in a variety of ways, rather than being bound to the default structure of 2-3 preset characters)?

I'm not crazy about that concept myself, but if that's the appeal, I imagine those looking for that element would be trying to advocate a more refined version of that in place of a mandatory tag/team set-up.

Some appeal also stems from creating dream teams. MvC and Capcom vs SNK is a start because it breaks barriers of having two things that you like at once. Game can be busted (not all) but yet they'll still play it because of that thought in their minds.

DBFZ will be another one. Ever since Frieza returned and joined Goku's team in DBS, people have developed this fan-made ideas like "what if" Frieza was a good guy now or how crazy it would be to see Goku and Frieza fight together. Heck, people pick up game copies because of it.

It's just the thought of breaking these barriers that's not possible. They just like those breakthroughs. Course, game dependent.

Even weird stuff like Dragonball Heroes and yet that game is extremely popular over there in japan, probably because they like a dream team along with made up forms/characters.

I just think Tag should never be the ONLY option. We should always have a 1v1 mode in a game.
