More appearances. IDK how region play would be distributed. And I wish more tourneys were held with DOA than the main 4-5 (Winter Brawl, Final Round, Summer Jam, TFC, & Republic of Fighters).
I don't think the numbers will change. DOA has a ton of problems that other players do not like despite DOA being a fun game. The stigma behind DOA in the whole titty fighter thing going around and most of the tournament players who play other games who tried DOA didn't like the mechanics.
If there's one thing that you can't force, is someone who's too accustomed to their own game to try out another. Sometimes they bash other games because the other games they tried isn't the same as the game they played originally. 2D you could "probably" adjust to another 2D fighter, but every 3D fighter is different which makes things getting used to difficult.
Even if DOA had the pot bonuses and the fancy tour and whatnot, I hardly believe the numbers will increase dramatically because the playerbase for DOA is still relatively small. It'll be the same people that you see in other DOA tournaments pop up for DOA. DOA is probably the only game where exposure proves difficult due to the image left in play.
DOA5LR tried to do that with the Battle Royal back in 2015 with numerous appearances but found that having too many major tournaments made it difficult for players to go to all the events. I'd say that the NEC finale for the past couple of years has been a success and attracted the attention of Japanese and European DOA players.
Like has been implied by DB, the DOA scene can only do so well with the stigma that hinders it along with a large portion of the FGC that dislike the core mechanics. What I hope is that TN can do what it can to stifle the stigma with DOA6 by promoting the gameplay over anything else first.
Understandable on everyone's end. And I feel NEC's great. And it's DOA's biggest tourney. Idk. I feel there's something missing to me that would've made NEC even bigger to me. Or even DOA offline in general.
But I agree with the fact that people don't like DOA despite it being a solid game. Whether it is an image thing or the dislike of mechanics, I really hope with DOA 6, it can pull people back in. Looking at past DOA gameplay and looking at some of the beasts from back then was fun af.
All things considered DOA5LR did well for itself. The game is a success for KT & TN despite a slow, rough start with DOA5.
To put into perspective: DOA has a sexuality & "titty" stigma along with being viewed as a random, RPS game by the general FGC. The sexuality stigma also hinders the game at a casual level.
The relative lack of productive, helpful material compared to something like Tekken/SF also hurts DOA's perception since Ryona videos & the like commonly dominate the search results. DOA5LR is also not as accessible as SFV or Tekken 7 (as much as people may not admit, DOA5LR is harder to play competently than it looks).
The DOA community is smaller than the Tekken/SF/etc. communities, thus leading to FG players leaning towards learning SF/Tekken/etc. over DOA.
For the record, Team Ninja put a lot of effort into the Battle Royal circuit since 2015 and made NEC into a big thing for DOA. But yeah, there are A LOT of factors that hold DOA back that we have to keep in mind.
