DOA5LR Is KT Killing DOA on Purpose

Right now should be a great time to be a fan of Team NINJA games and products, but with recent decisions it would seem that KT or Team NINJA specifically is killing their momentum instead of making legitimate content that their players want.

Before I begin, I will say that Koei was important for Team NINJA's survival. I would have preferred to see Final Fantasy characters and a merge with Square, but they thought Koei would do a better job of "managing portfolios." So I am grateful that we have DOA, but I believe the community is disappointed -- and they have a right to be.

1. Dead or Alive on PC. First they make DUMB comments threatening the communities creativity by saying nude mods will result in no more installments. I think everyone knew it was gonna happen. Did they really believe that they had that kind of control over their players!???

2. KT/ Team NINJA used that statement as a way to not give a rat's ass about the PC version... they already blew it by not adding the new stages or the soft engine. The DLC is most definitely just a donation to them because anyone can just modify any swimsuit they want. They could have made the PC version the standard for tournaments, but they for the Steam Community -- they made a piss poor port. The community embraced and purchased the game and they still didn't do shit.

3. This new character is a demonic entity that smells of Koei advertising. It's funny that Koei has never given a shit about the franchise. They saw that their games could sell by being lazy and repetitive, and they think their game is more successful. I don't think that it is -- and I think that players should be more vocal about what they want on social media or any other way.

They shouldn't get away with it.

4. Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 not happening in NA or Europe is also a big slap to the people that wanted it. They are also using the suggestions that we have been making for years. Like fireworks and night events, so if they are listening to us -- wouldn't it make sense to give us the game? We have been the ones suggesting the game all this time... it seems rude especially with the amount of contributions we have made as a community.

What is going on with KT games, what is going on with Team NINJA -- and why does every new announcement they make feel like a kick to the nuts instead of something to be excited about??

I think people have worked to hard in this community to be treated like this and not even get a REAL reason as to why these things are happening. I don't have a problem with the offline scene growing, but we want more as fans other than that.

I believe they have decided they don't want to produce full DoA or NG games in the future. I'm not sure why but their actions aren't consistent with someone planning to continue the franchises. Of course they won't just say that, they will try to get money out of it as long as they can without investing more in it.

I don't know what is happening to TN, they haven't made any significant changes to their game engine since DoA5 so they must have either laid off the senior programmers and engineers or they split them into a separate team and only allow them to spend tiny amounts of time on the TN games.

The steam release is the strangest thing, they started promoting it when they announced it, then a month or so later they went silent. The next time they spoke about it was to threaten people over mods. My impression is they canceled development of the PC version late 2014, then decided to try and pass off the arcade version as a full game rather than canceling it and refunding preorders. Then they issued the threat as an attempt to prepare an excuse as they knew they would not deliver a working product.

None of this makes any sense or matches what koeitecmo says in the shareholder reports they issue. They tell investors they are experiencing good success on steam, profit margins are high on digital sales and that they plan to focus on growing sales outside of Japan as the domestic market is in decline.

I have no idea what is going on there, some sort of serious corporate fraud or accounting issue is possible given Japans poor record with corporate governance. Or some sort of Konami style idiocy where they destroy their own products over internal disagreements.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say. Good post. They were like "Oh yeah, they broke the rule we knew they were gonna break so we can now just say fuck it to these players."

Fucking terrible.

The only part I disagree with is the "On Purpose" in the title.

Everything else makes sense.... lets hope KT and TN Survive.

^ this is exactly what im thinking, the idea that all the bad decisions being done towards doa right now DELIBERATELY is VERY cynical.

looking at the pc version of last round; they did a half-assed job with the release mainly because they were treating the release as an experiment to see how much support a pc release will get. they were clearly very worried about the inevitable nude mods which is why they (naively) asked fans not to make such (i am fully aware that nude mods for the console games are possible; ive played a hacked version of doaxbv myself, i mean that a pc version will make such mods MUCH easier to get).

as for the lack of a western release of doax3; they made it clear that the decision was made out of fear of controversy which would damage the credibility they want for the series. now, ignoring the hypocrisy of releasing the game either way and encouraging westerners to import, the fact that doax3 is also being rushed out evidenced by the relatively near release date, cutting down the cast and removing certain features shows they dont really give a fuck about the overall game and just want it over with for the sake of shutting up fans who wanted it. i personally want to get doax3 but will not buy it due to the limited cast and will still hold out for hope for a complete rerelease.

^ these 2 scenarios arent a result of wanting the franchise dead; lets remember that doa is one of KTs most well known franchises, when people mention KT, chances are they will be referred to as "the ones behind DOA". both are a result of misguided decision making over whats best for the franchise.

as for the new guest character; considering how last round had MANY crossover costume themes, a new guest character doesn't really seem too out of place...

The title should be called "Is Koei Killing DOA on Purpose? Will SJWs Prevail? Find out in the Next Exciting Episode Of..."

I don't believe Tecmo - or rather, Team Ninja - would have such little faith in their own franchise that they would kill that which has kept them running for what will be an estimate of 20 years as of tomorrow. Come on now. They were either pressured by Koei or extremely-vocal-but-uneducated SJWs.

As far as the DOA5LR PC controversy, it can also be argued that they had no prior experience whatsoever on how the PC market works. That, and it's likely they've been pressured to make the statement about encouraging people not to do nude mods due to the popularity of Ninjahacker's nude mods back in the 6th generation, and how Itagaki addressed that in particular.

There's no way they actually care about that, the exact same thing happens on the xbox 360 for years without any threats to stop releasing content for it. They have no issue with people selling DoA porn manga in Japan. They would have lost the ninjahacker lawsuit if they had ever gone through with it anyway, they would probably have had to pay millions of dollars in legal fees after fighting the EFF.

It was a relatively successful strategy if you complain on the steam forums about 30% of people believe they're entitled to refuse to complete the game
