System Regarding Core Fighters...

So, if one gets Core Fighters, is there any way to upgrade it with a bought Retail copy of the game? Or is the save file shared or something?

Well I know if you buy the digital copy, the game file is actually two separate download files that share the same save file. So I would assume that the retail copy can used the core fighter's save data but I could be wrong =[
