I read on 2ch that's it's using 3-button controls and IIRC in Virtua Fighter's layout rather than DOA's default. This was using google translation, though the message seemed pretty clear, but you never know.

This is correct. H, P, K. And Start to taunt.
It actually went:
T1 - Kazuya
T2 - Heihachi
T3 - Jin (Paul got robbed because he left before Ogre transformed.)
T4 - Heihachi (Jin beat his and Kazuya's ass after the tournament.)
T5 - Jin
T6 - Who knows? It's probably going to end up being Lars...
Giving Marie Rose Russian Roulette is like giving Leon I Feel For You. lol
And her theme kind of already sounds Solitary Desperation-y to me. But, whatever...

I would have preferred it if Paul did won T3. His punches has more sting than Jin anyways but I know for sure the prize money ends up getting spent on his bike.
I am a man of atypical taste and juxtaposition.

Holy crud I was mostly right about the 2nd one! Woooo~
Anyway her theme is fine. It sounds royal, and her theme is reminiscent to some anime themes involving people of royal stature. Parts of it remind me of Vk, rozen maiden. etc. Kinda sounds like it could be turned into Rachel Alucards theme "Queen of Rose".
I could imagine her with this theme actually!
The Virtua Fighter default layout is the DOA default layout. At least it always has been for the arcades.

No, you're definitely not alone. I was worried she would have a lame theme like Mila or Rig (they still haven't grown on me :x) but I must say I was impressed the moment it started with the Piano transitions. To be fair, there are sooooooooooooo many 2D fighters right now. GG, SF4, BB, Aquapazza, Under-Night, Chaos Code, Persona. And then Skullgirls, MK9, Injustice, Marvel (in America). 2D may have that fresh coat of paint for right now.
VF5 is kind of getting dated at this point. TTT2 may not have reinvented the wheel enough for people. Not to mention how complex those two are. But, there aren't even a lot of "3D fighters" to drift away from. It might be people are getting sick of 3D fighters as a genre, but I wouldn't make it sound like that just yet.
Maybe DOA will catch fire. It's certainly easy to get into, at least.
