Texture Editing (PC)

They're not hard to edit but there's a couple of things to consider. The alpha channel controls how glossy it is, if your image editor displays alpha as transparency it's confusing and impossible to edit. Secondly I think it multiplies the texture over the skin base texture, anything you put in the sweat color texture will darken everything.

I find the sweat/liquid system very amusing. With a little scripting you could make the engine do all kinds of crazy dynamic liquid effects but the PS3 probably lacked the ram to store a bunch of specialized textures for level specific mud, water and rain etc.

Can you recommend an editing program that doesn't display alpha as transparency?

thanks very much lizardmech, at present I'm just having problems locating them to extract from the game. Whatever I've tried to do to get into Cyborg's (aforementioned modder) files just doesn't work. I'm only looking to change the colours to black, white and green. Individually I mean.
Will keep trying to work on this none the less.
Lmao when I saw that ice-cream pic

Are you attempting to use uMod/TexMod to find the images or the Texture Tool?

was just trying uMod/TexMod for the moment, and trying to edit textures from another mod using Gimp and Photoshop with necessary plug-ins
Ah, I didn't spend much time on finding stuff in uMod, but using the Texture Tool will cut down the time of looking for specific stuff and can be repackaged on a per costume basic. Each costume has the included sweat/water texture. It outputs to dds which I've had no alpha / transparency issues with.

Finding an 'effect' image for the animated sweat though may prove more difficult.

Is there a way to modify the hair textures with the DLC Tool only ?
Having to use uMod all the time is getting annoying

Thanks much. Tried to stick to what i know as I only know basics of re-texturing and texture manipulation.
To be honest I haven't seen the links to the Texture Tool, only seen people mention it to this point.
Is it in this thread?

Not yet, until someone resolves the checksum in the game.exe. Only costumes are editable at the moment.

There's a link from the Community Mod Resources thread in the first page, I think. I thought Kronin posted a link to it if not the other utils at least.

Can someone help me with the DLC method? I can't seem to add any. I really can't figure it out, i tried three different .inis/launchers in my legit Stem release (I backed up the folder just in case)
I tried the "3DMGAME.ini" method, which worked but I couldn't copy my save to that version of the game, and I don't want to lose it since I've almost unlocked all costumes. i tried two other ones (two different steam_api.ini) but even though I added the DLCs in the ini (DLC = xxxxx or DLCxxx=xxxx depending on the ini) the game wouldn't recognize them.
Do I just have to download a cracked version of the game for it to work?

You can find it together with all the others tools here: http://www.freestepdodge.com/threads/texture-editing-pc.5560/page-56#post-258745

By the way the "Texture Tool" in particular got an updated version (I still need to try it), so I suggest you to get directly that one (you can find it in this post: http://www.freestepdodge.com/threads/texture-editing-pc.5560/page-63#post-259183 )

I don't own the file "3DMGAME.ini", so I'm not sure of that method for making work them, btw I know that can appear a silly question but you added the DLC even in the folder (I'm asking it just because you didn't mention it)? In the case of a custom DLC called "111111" you should get a such tree of folders:

- Root game (that will be installed inside program files)
    • DLC
      • 111111 (folder)
        • 111111.bcm
        • data (folder)
          • 111111.bin
          • 111111.blp
          • 111111 (shortcut)

I did, thanks for anwering me.
I actually solved the problem by adding another steam_api.dll file in the game folder (the one I had didn't work).
Now the outfits load but I can't carry my saves from my steam version to my modded version. I go to my save folder and copy my save from the steam version to the directory for the saves for the modded version (both directories are in My Documents/KoeiTemco/DOA5LR). Some titles (like play the game for 20 days) carry and some settings too but all of my unlocks (costumes, voices, training) are gone.

Sadly I don't know how to help you but I found discussions on the Steam forum that apparently regard just this matter. Try to read them and follow the instructions that the users reported, maybe you can be able to resolve the matter.

Thanks again for your quick answer, but that isn't exactly the issue. Ithink the issue is more of a lack of compability between steam and modded versions savegames.. I think i'll look in sites where they give 100% completed savegames, there must be some kind of tutorial on how to install savegames.

I believe the steam_api.dll file has your steam account name encoded into it somehow and if you recall anything about Tecmo Team Ninja they do not like people sharing saves so your Save was atleast account locked (might be machine locked as well). By switching the file you told the game you were using a different account thus invalidating the save. The funny thing is most other games don't have silly locks. This of course makes it near impossible to just download a fully unlocked save unless the dll is included.

On a side note, if you are using the wrong dll file on steam it might break your online ability and also it might indicate to steam that your game is modified so I would be careful with that if I were you.

Yes @gamemaster14, about the save matter the official FAQ on the DoA5LR site explicitely reports that the Steam saves are account locked.

Q5: How many save data files can be created?
A5: One save data file for each Steam account.

When you log into Steam with a different account, different save data will be created.

Q7: Can I use save data created by someone else?

A7: You can use copied save data as long as you use the same Steam account and same game version. You cannot use save data created by a different Steam account.

Thanks for your answer guys.
I eventually solved the issue by donwnloading a savegame resigner found here :https://steamcommunity.com/app/311730/discussions/0/618457398978791800/

It allowed me to change the steam ID associated with my steam version to match the one on my modded version.
