Every year, Valve sells a "Compendium" of which the money made is then used as part of the prize pool for The International in August. And this doesn't even necessarily provide in game content. The money raised is usually one of the biggest prize pools in all of eSports - the current pool for TI6 from this year's Compendium is already at 17.6 million dollars. As long as the content will be there in the future, I don't really care.
I don't know anything about DOTA, sorry.
New optional content and people getting mad?
I'm personally mad because the game doesn't work properly on my PC(Dual monitor setup) and they haven't done anything to alleviate that. They more or less proved every cynic right who said they made survival mode impossible on purpose so that people would bitch about it and give them an excuse to charge for shit that they traditionally dont charge for. Also its annoying that they wont release the content at the same time so that PC guys could have it at the same time.New optional content and people getting mad?
Thank god.
Watch em be 4$ each though.
Ok I see, well alright then. I only really want the chun li costume to be honest.
Blame Sony since they most likely paid for it.I'm personally mad because the game doesn't work properly on my PC(Dual monitor setup) and they haven't done anything to alleviate that. I bought the season pass, don't need to grind and even got a stage for free. I don't feel cheated.Basically its not them offering additional content thats annoying people, its the fact that people feel cheated and lets be real the people who bought the season pass did get cheated.
Look at all the games with big competitive pushes (SFV, Mortal Kombat X, and of course, DOA5), you'll notice that the're set up to make alot of money on microtransactions and post launch content.
having to play single player to unlock stuff for multiplayer doesn't make sense, if there's a secondary option to unlock stuff, even if it requires payment, then that's a better solution.
lmao it's just overpriced aesthetics why do you give a shitShoutouts to capcom saying fuck you instead of fixing their game.
This guy on reddit sums up my feelings perfectly

Heck, for months now I've been saying that I'd pay to unlock colors. To paraphrase what Lab Zero founder and former top MvC2/GG/3S player Mike Z said (when making Skullgirls) - having to play single player to unlock stuff for multiplayer doesn't make sense, if there's a secondary option to unlock stuff, even if it requires payment, then that's a better solution.
And we're only 6 months into SFV. How long was it before DOA5U came out. Who knows what'll happen down the line. The thing is, you can't suddenly make them free too soon lest you end up pissing off those who actually pay for them.Yeah but there should be...I don't know...a middle ground?
Even DOA5 through it's expansions has made costumes that don't sell that well free for those that didn't buy the latest game or even get those DLC yet unlockable as any other costume. You can expect that from any fighting game that does expansions on top of that(Xrd Revelator only has one set of colors you could buy and 2 ways to get colors in that game)

Why would you announce an alternate way to unlock the CPT stuff at this point in time when the point is to help add to the prize pool at Capcom Cup?And? There should be alternate ways without having to make them purchasable. I just gave you a good example with the swimuit challenges to DOA5 Vanilla to DOA5U.
Colors in vanilla SFIV were mostly unlocked through survival and challenge modes. If you want to be pessimistic, you can easily use SFIV as an example since their color schemes always came from Arcade and only Arcade along with Taunts, so why did they go so backwards from that?
