I'm honestly getting tired of dealing with people's opinions on DOA

I didn't think people would agree with me on this. I'm glad to see that wasn't the case.

I agree with a lot of points you guys have written about. Most of the blame for what's happening falls on Team NINJA themselves. But still, it's pretty frustrating how the otaku crowd is reacting to DOA6 when they clearly don't know shit about the franchise. I don't know if you agree with me but I feel like DOA6's visual style (at least for now, before we indeed descend into DLC hell) feels like a throwback to the DOA2-3 days when the guys were rude and the girls were hot and cool. There was a lot of fanservice but first and foremost, the characters were martial artists. That's the thing that got me to like the series so much in the arcade/Dreamcast days of DOA2.

Your experience is almost similar to mines (regarding the main topic) and NY locals, even main events but not as common.

DOA on my end, I went to my NY locals for offline venues quite a bit with Bladez, RenderingStar, Tenryuga etc. Heck, Tenryuga left DOA and this site because he was tired of supporting it due to DOA itself becoming a walking contradiction I guess and was tired of being in the environment on not being treated seriously or talking about game information. It was hard to get people to play the game in general over here, some tried with great spirit and happiness which is cool but extremely small (hey, start from somewhere). It's tough as hell trying to convince people to play a game that they already heard bad rumors about, on top of stepping out of their comfort zone from a game they already play outside of DOA jumping into DOA. You can ask Bladez, or even SlyBass when he came over here one time and we heard shit like "Why should I play this game when this game is better. DOA is a joke and its not even serious" "X game community has both 50% gameplay talk and 50% casual, DOA doesn't lol" but yet we ignored them and still try to get people to play it. Let me tell you, NY is the land of Marvel, SF, Smash, Guilty Gear and so on. Getting even a consistent scene here is hard along with time schedules.

Some people would say "well fuck those people, we don't need them" but at some point, DOA has to grow. You have to invite and help people like that so that they feel different about it and you prove them wrong that it's a fun game, that way, that person can tell their friends that the game is good, then their friends would tell their friends etc. and then it spreads. The more people playing DOA the better it is to get topics like you mentioned regarding gameplay and stuff while blocking out all the negativity.

Not a joke here. There are people who traveled and play DOA with us who went to the venue quite a bit in NY saying "I kinda regret learning and getting involved with DOA now..." and it's kinda depressing and infuriating hearing that because of something we can't just seem to control due to how TN does shit along with the community with how they take things and not talking about gameplay etc. I still support DOA for what it is but there are times where I feel like this whole DOA stigma needs a restart. Maybe TN could create an entirely new second fighting game IP while keeping DOA similar to Namco with Tekken and Soul Calibur, but TN kinda gets remembered for memes now regarding DOA so it might just do more harm than good. Who knows, I know how you feel though.

I had a lot of people getting interested in doa5 back in the day. After I moved to another continent, I lost contact with most of them and now I have no clue if there’s even a scene for fighting games where I live.

The current state of affairs is Team Ninja's fault 100%.

They take half steps in the right direction, and when only taking a half step doesn't get them the advertised result immediately go back to what they are known for -- shilling to the softcore hentai crowd.

Ironically I think Sony may actually be pushing this IP towards a more successful future than Team Ninja is. Most likely they won't be able to go as crazy as they did with DOA 5 and that can only help them in the long run. I don't see them changing the mechanics as much as they need to, though. They don't seem to have the guts for that, based on my conversations with them.

Yeah your recent treatment by the “community” when we got scared about the wall game was embarrassing. It’s true that you can be extremely negative sometimes but any DOA player should think twice before insulting one of the oldest members of the fanbase that actually wins important tournaments.

I just hope DOAX3 Scarlet works as a filter to keep those people away from DOA6. We definitely need new players on it but we can do without the Xtreme crowd.

I don’t even understand why they like that game. I tried Xtreme 3’s F2P mode on PS4 and it’s the most bored I’ve been with a vide game since Gran Turismo 5.

I haven't played any of the new stuff, but I imported the original DoAX3. I don't care for most of the mini games, but the vollyball is still fun. Nowhere near as good as 1 and 2's and 2 had way better mini games, but the xtreme games arnt horrible. I find the volleyball to be fun.

What? X3's Volleyball is way better than 2's (not better than X1 though). But I do agree that they are not horrible, just nowhere near full price if you don't like item grinding.

@topic though
I guess over the years DOA hammered too many nails in the coffin of its public image… early on they went full force with sexualized marketing even though the games themselves didn't even contain all that much sexy stuff, then Itagaki decided to make DOAX and tied it to the Dead or Alive brand which more or less opened the floodgates. Like why couldn't he just have used a different name, make a bunch of original chars and have the most popular DOA girls appear as guests? Dead or Alive Xtreme is a pretty stupid title for a Vacation game anyway…

And of course, the DOA5 DLC didn't help either. I'm also convinced that they used 5's DLC as a testing ground if people would buy a new DOAX game…

Many people don't know much about the franchise, or only know the “creepy Volleyball games”, others seemed to assume that DOA5 DLC will be the standard from here on out and now everyone is surprised that a Vanilla release looks like any other Vanilla release in the series. TN needs to come up with a different marketing strategy for the West, or actually change something. It has been the most transparent smoke screen ever and nobody will believe it for the third time lol

Though most people that whine about the lack of fanservice do not play the game anyway, a good chunk of those that actually play and were turned off, came around over time and some still complain but will buy the game anyway… and for the rest… DOAX and VV exist for a reason.

I love it when people give a bad opinion on DoA, it shows that they feel threatened by it. Instead of playing their so called better games, there out there trying to diss DoA. I laugh at this and will continue to laugh. ....
Psychoanalysis, 100% true.

No -- it's not. It's literally the same thing. You can still control your partner with the right stick and the volleyball operates on the same exact mechanics. It had a Jet Ski game that completely obliterated my desire to play non-stop volleyball. X3 replaced that with rock climbing... and don't even get me started with VV (even though it is good multi-tasking fun).

As far as Rikuto's point goes, I think there is a certain hardcore stigma and he encompasses it better than the likes of Lopedo and a few others that are strictly playing DOA for community affairs, gameplay and tournaments.

Rikuto is not all that vicious, and sometimes I disagree with him, but if he has a gameplay concern Team NINJA should be on it and nothing more should have to be said. In fact while some people have dismissed NiCO for being for casuals, he defended her and is looking forward to giving her a go.

I'm a fan and fighter of DOA, so I agree with Mike in the sense that I'm getting tired of dealing with others opinions, but I also think some people take the sexiness of DOA too seriously.

While I am seeing people complain and bicker left and right I'm just trying to enjoy everything about this game: rollout out of news, character reveals, gameplay, story, a beta test... I'm going for this ride with or without you because the love I have for this series transcends the opinions and wild speculations of people.

Then there's the doax one...lol
Title says banned commercial but thats BS. I remember seeing it air on adult swim.

Jesus Christ this is the most cringy commercial I've ever seen. Damn I used to love DOAX1 back in the day. Local multiplayed with the volleyball was super fun. I bet the casual crowd today don't even bother with it either.

I literally had to leave a Xtreme discord because anytime someone so much as referenced DOA6 they'd go on a big rant about it being SJW bait or censored or some bs even though I repeatedly said fanservice is going nowhere and that there would be mouse pads and all that crap in the CE(which I was right about.) But all I ever got was pretty much "I don't think that's true DOA is ruined"

I am very much in the "fuck them" crowd. Life is too short for me to give two fucks about these dipshits and their hypocrisy and ignorance. I just want a DOA/VF game that has decent netcode so I can enjoy it when I get home from work.
