I just prefer the characterization of the old Lara Croft, she had way more going on, this new Croft is a generic wet blanket with only one character trait, she's determined. plus these new Tomb Raider games aren't really Tomb Raider games, they're just Uncharted mixed with a Ubisoft collect-a-thon, and i can't stand either of those lol
Eh, the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy is miles better than the old Tomb Raider games, and I am looking forward to picking up SotTR today. Though it is a little cringey hearing Lara moan in pain all the time haha.
I will say that tank controls were concentrated cancer. I know "the world is mine" attitude and the asscutters arent coming back. All I want are the twin longslides. I can have those back can I?
I missed the old Lara too. To me it just seems like they are trying to prove a certain "point" when they remade her. Like you said, she pretty much came off as generic.
Lara Croft is fine as a character; I find that the issue is that the supporting cast she works with is so weak so she doesn't get a whole lot to play off of. Nathan Drake on the other hand gets much more interesting characters with Elena, Sully, Chloe and Sam (to name a few) to play off of. Though honestly, Lara's mostly just an avatar for the adventure.
I think the reboot was necessary, but I'm not sure where the character, as far as personality and arc, is going. It's like she keeps leaving a trail of mayhem and destruction wherever she goes and doesn't really give a shit? I don't know. I like her, but I think she's a little disillusioned by her desire to save the world or whatever.
