can't for the life of me figure out why ppl would do this, i guess it's either cause they're mashing on tech not even thinking about directions or they straight up don't know they can tech away to save themselves, it's weird :-/

Sometimes there is a specific reason for that. Manny is a good example for this as he does this during unholdables and why he back techs near a wall. Most people when it comes to unholdables, they always try to find one for when they side tech, because 9 times out of 10, someone will always side tech near the wall rather than back tech.

Because of this, you'd have to find a specific unholdable for when someone back techs near a wall, but a general player rule is a scenario of "why in the world would you back tech near the wall? you are just asking to get wall splatted again!".

But particularly varies, and some people do it specifically for that reason due to unholdables because if you do an unholdable that only works for side tech while you back tech, chances are you'll get free advantage. In which case, Manny uses Hayabusa, if your unholdable whiffs, he'll do Hayabusas jump over your shoulder throw where you are BT, and now you are at the wall.
