Are you serious ? I can understand. Very few I like in japanese but I mostly play in english. Too me that JP VA for Jann Lee sounds like Bruce Lee when he screams
I personally prefer DOA4 jann lee, his new Japanese VA sounds so grating with all those watahs. It also helps that the current artstyle makes them more better suited for English
Just my own opinion and taste on the previous comment, I have the game set on English for ages and the reason for that is because I like the cool voice tone from Donovan's R1 fight quote. I also like Rig's ENG VA over his JPN. It might vary for people with taste on this because there are those that only like the ENG or only like the JPN VAs.
DOA5's English voice track is solid. I always use that track and shake my head when people tell me to change to the Japanese voices. The Japanese voice track is decent to an extent, though a lot of voices get grating fast *coughshonokamarierosekasumimomijietc*. Rig's & Christie's English voice actors are amazing by the way. Love me some Liam O'Brien & Laura Bailey.
I actually prefer the English voices because I personally find majority of the female Japanese voices annoying. But then, I play Busa most of the time and hearing Troy Baker's cringy voice makes me want to switch to Japanese. Still, some characters have both decent Eng and Jap voices. Hayate/Ein is one example.
Troy Baker's fine dude lol. But yeah, Hideyuki Hori is pretty godlike as Busa. Makes me wish there was an individual character voice setting for ENG/JP.
The VAs are just going off how they sound in japanese, like Kokoro's English VA Heather Hogan, people say she sounds like she's not trying but she's just replicating how she sounds in Japanese, which is soft, meek, and delicate. These VAs made the cut for a reason, I doubt TN would just hire just anyone to voice say Kasumi who's the face of the series
Yeah but for the most part TN and the localization team do have to change things around for the English VAs so they don't sound strange in the voice and subtitles
Think about it, does "I'm sorry, let's have fun!" sound more natural or does "I do beg your pardon!" From Mai's winpose?
I'm not really talking about the dialogue they are saying. I am talking about the way he voices acts in general. In both DOA and NG3, he sounds so angry most the time, unlike Justin Gross in NG1, calm and collective imo.
Justin Gross was cool in NG1. Troy Baker has been used in about 60% of worldwide animes and he does feel weird as Ryu. If someone played DOA5 and NG3 for their first time, they probably would feel natural for it (maybe).
I can only play the game in Japanese, Hayabusa, Ein/Hayate, Hitomi, Leifang, Tina etc. Only feel right with their Japanese voices to me.
Plus a lot of the English voices are waaay more grating IMO, especially Marie Rose and Leifang I also can't stand that Momiji has Tina's accent in certain quotes.
grass is always greener. That said I prefer japanese for basically all characters EXCEPT the two I play, Mila and Leon. Mila because the english VA sounds more natural and Leon because the original JP va died and I don't like his new JP voice.
Momiji's English voice sounds great. Actually sounds like a woman as opposed to that hi-pitched chipmunk voice she has in Japanese. Marie Rose is annoying in both Japanese & English. LeiFang is *ahem* a different story lol. C'mon everyone can use a shoul... umm a little "YAWWWW!" in their life.
@Force_of_Nature tbf I never said anything about the voice, its the accent. Because she's also voiced by Kate Higgins some of her victory quotes have a random drall to them
