They kinda dropped the ball after MGS3. MGS4 was alright but had some good elements removed that once created suspense in stealth for MG. MGSV just felt more out in the open stealth than the sneaking stealth. I do miss the sneaking in huge bases and wing areas from the older games.
Now that Hideo Kojima is gone, Konami doesn't know what to do with it. At this very point, MG might be a difficult series to get back into. Especially if those players are old school players.
Yeah MGSV felt like more of a cross between Splinter Cell and Red Dead Redemption than Metal Gear.
Still pissed that all these updates later, even adding in the swimsuits from versus into SP, we still can't get the option to pick "none" for hip weapons. I NEVER USE THOSE AND THEY SO UGLY FLOATING THERE.
Actually MGS V felt only like Red Dead.... The last Splinter Cell Game's level design was way too good to be compared to MGSV's flat and wide empty spaces.
^I meant more like how the player characters played more like Splinter Cell than Metal Gear, while the open world was more like Red Dead. So MGSV was basically Sam Fisher in Red Dead Redemption.
MGSV has stealth. It's the fact that you can go rambo and you'll still get the mission done.
I have seen too many videos where Snake can hop on a robot vehicle, speed feat all the way to the end of the mission, alerting everyone, and still get the mission complete. There wasn't any of that in MGS2.
Honestly you have to put serious effort into ever even needing stealth. Because the game is open world with nobody around most of the time, and soldiers only on roads or in the outposts, and you can usually backdoor straight to the objective or snipe everyone from a mile out, it's hard to argue it's even a stealth game when you basically never get anywhere near anything so you dont need to sneak.
