I own both versions and an RGH 360 that can play both of them, but I've never actually bothered to try running the NTSC-J one. My bet would be that there is no difference between them, as the other DOA titles that came out around that time (DOA2U and DOAX2) have no differences between region codes.

The manual for the NTSC-J version is different though and and the game's cover art has some artwork on the reverse side.

Forlorn penguin, that's sounds pretty cool (the art at the reverse side of the cover). I have the first print and the platinum hits copies of the game (both NTSC-U) and aside of the PH banner they haven't any noticeable differences.
