The reason I buy characters is so I can let kiddo nextdoor to choose (and becoming my sandbags), sometimes let them online...

Well in that case then its good that FG have a Free To Play option. That way you can only pay for the viable Characters.
But then heres the Downside... you leave yourself vulnerable to every character you don't own everytime you play online.... or on a different Machine.

sounds like more a problem with lazy unmotivated gamers than with fighting games being difficult -_-

Real talk though, that definitely seems to be more player dependent than game dependant. For example, MK9, I only played 1 character effectively cause I had little interest in playing anyone else. Then you take something like nitro plus, while I main saya and ignis, I have working knowledge of every character in that game (also helps that the cast is rather small but still)
