Interestingly, after playing Nioh, it's really hard for me to go back to the Souls games due to how clunky they are.

I'm going through DS3 ATM, albeit slowly, because it's very mediocre.

I wouldn't say 3 is mediocre, it just feels hollow (no pun intended). it looks nice and plays nice but since it lacks challenge the whole experience feels very empty when you're done with it (i say this after spending 460 hours on it lol)

i guess the reason why i can go back to the first souls game with ease is that after my first Nioh playthrough, i can't think of single thing Nioh did better than Dark Souls, and by extension Bloodborne. that's why when i was done with it im like "welp, that was fun, now i kinda wanna play the better version of this game"

Funny. I'm of the exact opposite opinion.

the fact that Dark Souls can be played in so many different ways does it for me, i did like 15 playthroughs and still i find so much shit. Also the invading mechanic makes the game so much fun.

Nioh has tons of build approaches and invasions suck.

Do not make me invade you and use the point down gesture at you after i’m done reading you my favourite manga whilst slicing and dicing you with my 40 dex 40 strength build using my onikiri and ubadachi (i bet a westerner like you can’t even tell the difference between a uchigatana and a ubadachi) *adjusts trench coat and tips fedora* meet me at SakuraCon if you dare. For me it's Bloodborne, man. Even after playing so much Nioh. Bloodborne is still the better game in my eyes. Nioh is a fantastic game, and the gameplay is far superior to the Souls series. But in terms of level design, art direction, music, story and overall atmosphere, BB just tramples Nioh.

I feel a big crutch Nioh gave itself was its mission structure. It limits you to small portions of different maps, and it just can't compare to being in a world where all areas are connected and there's a story to every single one.

alright im just gonna break this down in a way we all can understand

Dark souls is like sex with an old curvy milf, it's a little clunky and takes time to get into, but once you're in, it's an experience you'll never never forget (for better or for worse)

Nioh on the other hand is like getting a beej from a generically hot girl, she looks good and it's an awesome beej, but it's too small scale and impersonal to be memorable

and lastly, bloodborne is like banging a girl in dirty bathroom stall, it's memorable, but more for the setting, atmosphere, and fast pace more than anything else
