It is unfortunate the game does not have a great tutorial. The only explanation in the game is during the story, and you will have to play all of it to understand the game.

Not to mention you this site's wiki. It has a ton of information on terminology and basics. Just click wiki there at the top of the page. The terminology link is kind of hard to find. It's on the right side of the page.

It teaches the basics more or less.

Master did a series of tutorials for DOA4. Obviously, 5 is a completely different animal, but those tutorials will still teach you the pure basics of DOA strategy. They're on his YouTube channel.
