Battle Royal Final Round 18 only receives 42 pre-registrants for DOA5LR

In a year that brings Team NINJA's exciting and new tournament circuit, Battle Royal 2015, the pressure is certainly on the community to match up to the support the team has provided for it. Winter Brawl 9 (WB9) concluded a few weeks ago in Philadelphia, PA with 32 entrants - an improvement over Winter Brawl 8's numbers by 50%. However, many were disappointed in the turnout at WB9 regardless of the fact the game was released in the same week.

Larry "Shin Blanka" Dixon, organizer for Final Round 18, recently posted the pre-registration numbers on his facebook:

Code:
Thanks to everyone that pre registered online for fr18! Remember there still is Emergency Door Registration on Thursday and Friday. Sad to see kof and the injustice numbers so low, but it is what it is. LoL. See everyone in two weeks!

Ultra Street Fighter 4 = 343
UMVC3 = 189
GG Xrd = 186
TTT2 = 139
Smash U = 122
Under Night= 69
KI = 55
Smash Melee= 50
DOA =42
Soul Cal= 42
Injustice = 24
Kof = 16

Previous Final Rounds scored as high as a 68 entrant tournament, so the pre-registration numbers certainly aren't too far from that mark. However, with this year being the debut of Battle Royal 2015, and the final entry of Dead or Alive 5 now released, the eyes are on the DOA community to support its own game and the competitors who are trying to keep the game alive in the competitive circuit. Sadly, even if the numbers are equal to previous years, one would hope with the increased support from Team NINJA in investing in a tournament circuit, that competitive entrant numbers would be improving. If numbers aren't improving at events then support from Team NINJA probably won't be continuing in the future... including future iterations of the series. Could the low pre-registrant numbers for DOA5 Last Round at Final Round 18 be a sign of this being the last year for competitive Dead or Alive?

Final Round 18 takes place in Atlanta, GA on March 20, 2015. For those players who want to support those in attendance, but are unable to attend themselves, an FSD donation pool has been set up to give towards the total Pot bonus.

If I wasn't scared shitless I would definitely try Bananaman tactics at that event. Just don't wanna get beat up by some neckbeards.
If that's your reason for not attending the event, that's actually an awful excuse. Afraid of getting "beat up" is not an excuse to skip an event. (If I misread this somehow and you are in fact attending, ignore this).

Shit I forgot to pre-register.
Similar boat, but for me I have to see if my money is acting funny around the emergency registration date.

That said, just a week ago people were complaining about a costume soft ban.....How did some people run their mouths about tournament rules being unfair when they dont show up in the first place? If you don't at least consistently try to show up to tournaments you really shouldn't concern yourself with rules that will never apply to you lol

That's one of the sad things about the issue. Fucked up priorities.

Naw i'm not going, the main reason is I won't be available but I still don't think I would go since it def isn't worth the money for me. I went to TFC just cuz it was an our away, didn't play tho cuz if I wanted to get bodied for money i'd hire an escort.

I highly doubt tournament numbers will have any impact on what TN does. As long as the franchise sells well at retail and people keep buying dlc then I imagine the top brass could give two shits about a tournament. If they think they can make money with DoA6 then they will make DoA6.

DoA has trucked through 7-10 man tournies. I doubt its going anywhere. It will never pull the numbers of SF though, but that franchise has grassroots written all over it.

Regardless of the retail success of the game, the competitive numbers shrinking would tell Koei it's not worth investing in the competitive community. Therefore, you are correct, the top brass could give two shits about a tournament, and wouldn't bother to waste their money on it and instead just make a new game.

Hopefully, there will be more people who register at the door so that the numbers can be a little better. Though, since this is my first tournament, I am kind of glad that the numbers are small. Just makes the experience in getting to know everyone easier for me.

Ehhh... the opposite for me. I wanted to meet as many top players at KiT as possible, so it was definitely worth the money seeing quite a bit of them.

Most of the people going are people I want to meet, so I'm good. I like that our community is small, but dedicated. I even have friends who I'm going with that are interested in DOA casuals, though, I'm the only one that entered because I'm THE DOA guy.

I highly doubt you have to worry about that given the transition from 4 to 5.

Lol but what you don't get is that with this tour, if low numbers continue, then this is a wasted investment & Koei Tecmo will look at this & more than likely say, "This isn't worth doing again since no one really shows up & supports the game offline." It's a tour. The more people, the better.

Some of you are being too harsh on people who can't make it. Maybe you should try encouraging new players to participate and not make others feel bad for missing an event.
Lol We all do. All the time.

I definitely understand. Maybe a lot of people are saving up for specific tournaments, such as the Evo side tournament. Or TFC, which I consider the premier DOA tournament (and it is free entry). But I think numbers for future tournaments will improve, hopefully. People have a schedule in front on them and will show up to events that they can. However, it's also up to us as a community to get new people to attend.

I understand how it can appear to the outside. I'm attempting to say stuff without saying stuff. There's some discussions that go on at a tournament event the non-attendees tend not to have the chance of hearing. Understand that I wouldn't be saying what I said if it wasn't a real possibility. There's a lot of people fighting to support us, but if the community can't prove that support is deserved then those fighting for us will just be left with no evidence of reason to further support.
