Is the forward tank roll useless?

It seems that every time i do it i just get my attack beaten by my opponents attacks. does it have any uses at all?

In higher match games, when you're applying the pressure, it works as a good mind game. Don't expect it to fool many players below an A grade. They tend to just mash buttons.

exactly some people i play with when they see that move they start mashing punches and kicks and it always seems to work for them

Yup. When you try to play a mind trick on a brainless opponent, it's not very effective. Don't give up on it, but know your opponent before trying it.

You use it during juggles to get the epic ground throw option. I have yet to find a situation where its going to consistently scare someone during neutral, though. None of the options out of it hurt a standing opponent enough for them to care.
