Shreveport Fighting Game Community presents SOUTHERN REBELLION

http://www.facebook.com/events/467811156617754/

I am not the one in charge of the entire event, but I will be running the DOA5 tourney. Currently it is slated for $5 entry, but that can be raised if it will attract more players. (I would rather it be $10 myself) Here's the copy and paste from the official event link. (the FaceBook event link listed above)

Come out to Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport, LA and compete for cash, prizes, and bragging rights! Everyone is invited to this BIG beatdown!

Venue or Spectator fee: $10
Game entry: $10 ($5 SSBB/ DOA5 unless players want change it.)
Payout: 60/30/10
Raffle $1 to enter (You can enter as many time as you want.)

The line up: AE, UMVC3, TTT2, SFxT, P4a, MK9/Injustice, KOF13, DOA5, SSBB, MAYBE SCV

Melee has been switch with Brawl and SCV with DOA5 (SCV may be added only if there is one setup)

All games are best 2/3 (UMVC3 3/5) Championships are 3/5

1st Place for SFxT will get 60% of the entry fee and a Madcatz fightstick
2nd Place will receive the special edition of the game.

Details are not necessarily finalized. This is months away and we are open to suggestions for games/rule changes/prices/whatever. Voice your comments here or on the FaceBook page.

We expect the best of Louisana and Texas to show up. Will probably get some Arkansas people too. Spread the word. We've announced this months ahead of time to build up hype. Get it rolling! As of Feb 19th, at least 44 people are going and we still have months to grab more people.

And yes we are planning on streaming the event.

Oh and I was going to run DOA5 on PS3 since that's the only version I have. I will have convertors so you can use your Xbox controllers. (I will even have convertors that will let you use your wireless 360 controller)

UPDATE (03/18/13): Since Xbox seems to be the preferred console in this area, we will use that. Also, I will raise the entry fee to $10 so it is more worth it for you heavy hitters to come on out.

UPDATE (05/06/13): Please pre-register here: http://southernrebellion.moonfruit.com/

UPDATE (05/26/13): To get to the area the tournament is being held, when you go through the main entrance go up the stairs and take a right and another right to the rooms marked Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas. We are only using the first two rooms and you can only enter the first room.

Also, we have over 100 people showing up to this event. This is gonna be a blast. :)
And I remind everyone to follow the FaceBook page for more updates and the current RSVP count:

I'm curious as to why the move to PS3 for this event. The last DOA event I went to and played in was played on 360 (Bar Fights X in Dallas). I don't know which platform is superior, but I do know the PS3 version has the patch us 360 users are waiting on.

But actually, the fact that the Xbox360 still does not have the latest patch is more than enough reason to not use the 360 version for any tournaments for the time being. Of course, this should be fixed by the time our tournament rolls around. So... If you all really want the 360 version, someone will have to bring it and an Xbox updated to the latest version because I only have the game for PS3. But remember that I will have convertors so you can use your Xbox controllers (yes even the wireless ones) on the PS3.

The console choice doesn't really matter to me because I use an Eightarc Fusion stick which works on both consoles. Though I'm not gonna lie, it would be nice to have a console that has all content unlocked. (including DLC costumes) My PS3 has everything and I plan to buy every future piece of DLC too.

Mike most tournaments are ran on ps3, texas tournaments are an exception. and he says he only has a ps3 and he has converters, although maybe we can get people to bring their console for this event. either way I dont mind it on either one since i have a converter myself. but you can count me in.

Also Cla by the time this tournament comes around the patch will have been out for a while on 360. and exhibition mode takes care of the content part.

I actually wasn't sure what was the main console for DOA. I know that most games try to stick to PS3, but I also know that the majority of the DOA community is on Xbox because of DOAU, DOA3, and DOA4.

(Bar Fights X in Dallas)
Oh yeah, I was the Kokoro player there. It was an honor fighting the legendary Master Ninja himself. I hope he can make his way to this tournament. Would love a rematch after having months of extra experience with the game. I also would have liked to play against the guy who played Akira.

but you can count me in.
Awesome. :) If you have a FaceBook account, be sure to select Going on the FaceBook event page. (that's the main way they are keeping track of how many people to expect) It also wouldn't hurt to write on the wall what games you going for. They actually did not originally include DOA5, but I promised there would a good enough turnout. Every person who can go on there and say they are coming for DOA5 will reassure them they're making the right decision to include it.

I was wondering about that cause Exhibition Mode was advertised as having only "some/most" costumes unlocked, not all. Does it have them all? Also, it won't unlock DLC costumes. And I know costumes aren't important. I just mention it because it's the only thing that would even remotely affect my console preference. (not PS3 vs 360, just which exact specific console we use) But again, in the end it doesn't really matter to me because I use a stick that works on both consoles, which is all I need.

Was not aware that most DOA tourneys are run on PS3, guess that means I gotta rent or buy the PS3 version after Bar Fights in a couple weeks. I'm also retiring my black TE-S (that has the demons inside it) and replacing it, most likely with a Eightarc stick. The more you know I suppose =)

he says he only has a ps3 and he has converters

Here's the problem with converters and PS3s: You cannot have two of the same converters running at the same time on the same PS3. You have to use different converters. Not sure the technical reason but I can presume that its due to PS3 registering the inputs as coming from the same input device due to there being no individual controller ids being sent.

wow really? I didn't know that. I use a converter myself and I know i suggested others to get the same one as well. hopefully i don't meet them in a tournament than lol

Are you sure about that limitation with convertors? From what I understand, it's actually the other way around: You can't use 2 convertors at the same time on the 360. All of us here in the Shreveport Fighting Game Community use the same convertor, and I'm pretty sure we have used 2 at the same time on one PS3. But I will test this on both the PS3 and 360 at our next meet-up, which is every Wednesday night.

What convertors did you all use? The usual cheap one? That's the one we all have at our scene.

If that convertor really has this problem, then I will get 2 Cronus devices before our tournament. Cronus should not have this problem, though I can't say I have proof of this at the moment.

Yes that's the one. Luckily I didn't fight anyone who used one and there was someone who had a different converter for those who needed it

Oh, so that was you, SweetRevenge. Didn't know you by name when I first made this thread. You are pretty legendary yourself, I would imagine. Anyway, it was great playing your Sarah and I look forward to an epic rematch after months of training. I'm planning to hit the labs hard and not go to another tournament till Southern Rebellion. Looking forward to finally giving you all high-level comp.

Oh and our scene has an Xbox version to bring now, if people prefer that. And I have like 3 different brands of convertors now, with intention to still get at least one Cronus as well.

I will not be making this tournament sadly. I have a lot on my plate as far as life goes (college, internship, then our fight club out here in East Texas) and I need to focus on that stuff more or less. Good luck with the tournament, hope it all goes well :)

Oh wow I somehow missed you already said this. But anyway...

Alright so I'll go ahead and make it official that we are using Xbox for this tournament. Also, I will raise the entry to $10 to make the prize more worth the winner's time. I'm sure you all are tired of DOA5 being considered a side $5 tourney at most events anyway. WIth the bigger-than-expected DOA5 turnout at Bar Fights 11 and the DOA community only getting bigger and bigger, we just might be able to call DOA5 a main event at Southern Rebellion.
