Community Opinion: Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Dividing the Community

PC is the solution. PC guys. Stay PC.
if TN wanted to lose their dlc cash cow, sure lol.

that's not what Cyber meant.yes its being divided console wise but the division hes talking about is whether or not you support TN cutting content to the last gen users

Honestly...all the stuff being cut from current gen (I dont have new consoles so thats still next gen to me) is stuff I don't like much anyway. Stages I didn't like, hairstyles I don't like. So i'm meh on all this.

The real issue is that their excuse of "won't work on last gen" doesn't hold water when hair and stages aren't that intensive, especially with the shoddy work they do on them, and we've seen other games do equal or more on last gen.

For the tl;dr people: it's a video game. If you like it, buy it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Calm your tits this isn't Tumblr; keep your teenage angst to yourself.

And not discuss this? I can tell you're a casual! It amazes me how everyone says to a solve a problem, we need to talk, but then when we start talking, all of a sudden, t's no big deal. We wouldn't be talking if it weren't! Whether we act on the simple/naive solutions or not! Discussions never hurt nor will hurt anybody!

While excited for the game, I'm honestly in no rush. I'm sure TN will deliver and even if it isn't to my own personal liking then oh well; I'm still buying/playing the game because I'm in love with the series. (I'd be buying for PS4 but would gladly DL or whichever for the PS3 as well to play any friends who don't have a PS4 yet) Unless it has cross platform playability, of course.

In all honesty.. i really don't see what the big deal is. I could care less for two stages and hairstyles. You guys are getting a balance patch for a new version of the game.. for FREE. You don't even have to pay for the balance changes unlike *cough* Capcom games *cough*. I could understand if they took out the two new characters... but they aren't. Meanwhile, im dishing out 40 bucks for the next-gen version just so i can provide better content for DOA to YOU.

I'm reminded of the story, "If you give a mouse a cookie."

Anyway, people who are upset about the upcoming release are focusing on what they don't have as opposed to what they're getting. You spoiled spoiled brats.

If you aren't getting anything, that's the issue! That is why people are pissed! This isn't Vanilla ---> Ultimate! We got something! Here, we don't appear to be. This is a console upgrade! You would think they would go balls out with "new" stuff, but no! I'm looking forward to MKX more than LR and MKX is cross-gen, too; however, I'm certain they packed more into the last gen version even if we do miss some things not going current gen!

Again, this is more than "I want this! I want that!" It's: "Stop the BS!" The entitled gamer monkier is nothing more than an attempt to deflect wrongdoings by the companies/devs. That's all! We may be entitled, but we don't have to put up with shit either! If you think going next gen will make the sting of feeling cheated go away, you're wrong! The "Here's a band-aid for your scab!" has to quit!

I'd rather people vent if it helps to ease tensions. Not stfu and take it!

There was already a post by Madian iirc explaining why this is happening.

The whole "you spent X for the DLC, so why cant' you spend Y for a console" argument doesn't take human psychology into consideration. Why are things $x.99 in the price tags? Because that penny has a profound effect. We like to writeoff non-whole 9s, for some reason. Infact, when you see 199, your mind thinks 100 and then some, not 200, minus some. Delayed release of DLC makes effects, too. Squeenix did this with the Theatrhythm games (you know they had the songs done a while ago, because the download sizes are not consistent with downloading a whole song, note sheets, etc). When they make you pay 1.99 per song (strike 1), they come out in consistent and planned intervals (strike 2), and when we all knew what the schedule would be because it was followed through with the japanese version before the american game came out, when 2 sentence descriptions were the only things that were translated (strike 3 [sadly, unlike in baseball, 3 strikes isn't enough to keep you from falling for it]).

Not to say that TN is this crooked (i would assume most of it is planned far enough ahead for safety, though), but that has alot to say about it. People ended up paying 100-200 dollars for a 50 dollar game, without even realizing it. Milking the DLC money out of the crowd is easier than trying to get someone to fork 500 upfront. What we're seeing is, TK has a really, really bad PR department (which is something we've known for a long time, anyway).

a balance patch of which we've mostly gotten for free anyhow that we know nothing about, and two characters we know nothing about. the only things revealed are all the things cut from us. in essence it feels like we're getting nothing at the moment.

That's because of the big push to the next console. TK doesn't get anything from console sales, however it affects their ability to snag money from retailers who want to stock shelves. My guess is the characters are the only thing we're getting. They're trying to pawn this off as an issue for the consoles, which is BS. The stages they COULD argue, but costume related stuff they can't, because we're getting he outfits already (not that i really care that much). If they can render the wholes, why can they not render the individual parts? Moreover, why would it be magically harder for a preview screen, when there's no stage also being rendered to hog cycles? We know better. They could just be honest and tell us that they're selling the game to Gamestop/EB Games and not us.

Oh, and another thing, they also have to get some sort of revenue to make up for the PS4 dev-kit and licensing fees.

i understand the need to sell the game, but as i said earlier cutting this type of content from us doesn't help since the majority are buying it for that soft skin engine, that's the exclusive they needed

Not really. I can't justify a PS4 (PS4's online scheme hurts the PS4's viability in my eyes), so i won't be getting the ps4 version. They know there are people that won't otherwise justify their purchases. They *KNOW* the stage issue will get the competitive scene buying PS4s because they'll *NEED* to. And messing with costumes? Clearly for the rest of the convince-able crowd. They're just including the characters so that we don't laugh at them. Could you imagine how much more upset we'd be? Moreover, feeling those guys and learning them will make it harder for us when they try to force the PS3 version offline later.

There was already a post by Madian iirc explaining why this is happening.

I read it! It's still BS! For example: The backwards compatibility for next gen? Everybody will argue keep the old consoles. Well, then why were some games able to be played on 360 from the Xbox (and I've heard the emulation idea) Sure, the problem may be solved with a passthrough, but I'm just wondering where MS and Sony's heads were! Because it appears they had no intent on BC.

This irks folks when you say, you can't do something because its a huge undertaking. So, you give them a nugget to pacify them! Even with a passthrough, you still need two consoles powered on. I get it. I'm saying they shouldn't have treated last gen users like charity if it was never their intention! They didn't want to piss us off, but ironically they did! It would be the same if last gen got all the goodies while current did not!

OOPS!

Again, I'm getting the console anyway, but that's not the issue and you know it!

BC is good for PC, bad for consoles. Lack of BC allows them to make money off of downloadable ports. For example, if my PS3 could play PS1 and PS2 games, why would i ever buy the digital games?

As a DOA fan, I've really enjoy DOA5 from playing the alpha demo & when the original was released (which I gotten the collectors edition), as a collector I would try getting every DLC costume to existence (even the private paradise), and even got DOA5U when the game got announced. When DOA5LR was announced I was pretty curious and would want to know details, what got Me excited was seeing 2 classic stages from "The Crimson" & "The Danger Zone DOA1" (which the Danger Zone is a huge favorite considering DOA history and what would complete it was adding DOA1 music). The soft engine & new effects wasn't something I would get 100% excited. When I saw the gameplay of DOA1 Danger Zone in action along with details about the stage, along with new hair accessories, & the edit options (which was in DOA5U Arcade Edition) was something I would've want to get DOA5LR. (even part of the video show off 5 locked slots, which equals to 6 stages. Danger Zone was the only new stage available. Even saw 2 locked characters, which I'm looking forward to see what characters are going to be in the game)

What killed part of My hype (not to the point where I would stop playing DOA all together) & did get Me upset was the whole missing content for PS3/360 (stages, hair accessories, & edit options) from what I've found in DOA World & the official website where they only have characters & costumes. Which at first could've been Team Ninja not explaining it very well, which until I came to this community about the news with the missing content which could be the case (unless if something change, which I'm not expecting if it will or will not happen). The whole last gen spec & current gen spec detail wasn't well explain. (which makes Me wonder what is going on)

Reading this post does prove a good point & would be something I'd understand to an extent. (even other reasons on the whole "why the content is missing" that members are saying) Would make Me wonder about the console market as a whole or where its going down. (unless if things can turn around)

What does matter to Me the most is still being able to play full content of DOA5LR on the PS3, even if stages, hair accessories, or edit options are separate DLC I'd be willing to pay for it. If the extra content is going to remain in PS4/Xbox One, than I'll wait until I get the PS4 & would wait for special deals (or PS Plus making it free for a limited time) or just get the Core Fighters on PS4. I'll just keep following news or updates to see what DOA5LR has to offer.

And that's is another issue! All mediums going digital. Music, movies, TV, games! The DRM crap with XBO upon reveal, but wait! Didn't they reverse policies? I wonder how the hell that happened?

Again, using movies as another medium. Most people have a crapload of DVDs (I do). I realize Blu-Ray is the "way-to-go," but what exactly are we getting? More content? Sure! All they did was literally compress the size of content to pack more onto the physical disc which is no smaller nor bigger than the DVD disc. And of course, the picture quality is superb for any graphics whore out there!

To relate to LR:

The two disc sets where the second disc adds just 15 mins of additional scenes. (A whole disc with just 15 mins taking out everything from the theatrical release? That's a waste of a $26 disc!) I realize things have to be cut; of course, they are for theatrical release (and content cut doesn't necessarily have to cross a line, but in the case of submission for a rating ...) Thus, we get things like Director's Cut or Unrated Versions.

The 5U disc, understandable, but it kept becoming bloated and bloated. Costumes, Patches, Stages, Characters. So, here's another disc. Yet, the problem: that 15 mins on a second DVD, with what we've been shown so far! It's a waste! Yet, folks complain when a AAA RPG comes out on multiple discs. Mass Effect 2 & 3. Two discs each and we still got a load of DLC that should have been discs 3 & 4 for each respectively! LR is nothing but DLC on top of DLC.

If they (and this is any company) released everything - regardless of how many discs - iow, no dlc BS - at least not to the degree of ugliness it has gotten to - folks wouldn't have an issue. But alas, we do. If you can get X amount of costumes for Y amount of money, just to say: "I'm a fan. I support you!" You can get a ten-disc game that includes everything for half that or less and still be a fan. It's retarded on paper, but it's better than "Get a part here, get a part there!" aka DLC! But folks do this, then get pissed when everything comes all wrapped in a bow. You can't seriously be wondering why they're upset!

I wasn't looking for a no BC reason, I used that to illustrate a point! About the bad PR. Mass Effect 3 had this problem and if you think people are losing it here, was much, much worse there!

To make a long story short, Some still say how that left a bad taste in their mouths despite a feeble attempt to quell it to say the least! It was nice, but why wasn't it in the game? But of course, you then hear nothing but rationalizations. Same thing here!

There are folks with a bad taste in their mouth right now and it won't go away whether or not LR is bought on whatever console. It is what it is. I'm sorry to say that!

Just wanted to point out, that with the momentum that DOA5U has had recently in the competitive side of things, it makes no sense whatsoever to kill that momentum by announcing DOA6.

With all the new content added to the game even before Last Round was announced, 5U had at least 1 or 2 years left in the tournament circuit, maybe even more if we look at how some classic games have fared. LR extends that further.

More importantly, it gives the 5 series a chance to officially come to the big game - Evo. Last Round is most likely going to be the biggest console 3D fighting game release on of 2015. Tekken 7 is gonna stay at the arcades for awhile (and, based on past experience, will have 1 more update before hitting consoles). While Evo has been averse to DOA (another thing we can blame DOA4 for), they're not averse to letting scenes with good momentum and support and, more importantly, developer backing and funding (which TN already shows they're willing to do) in to the show.

TN is the only other developer with a big eSports series for their game (next to the Capcom Pro Tour). Having Evo 2015 be a stop in the Road to the Fall Classic would be a big boost for the game overall.

There's the kicker. I've had to explain to many people that anything before the development of blu-ray would NOT look better on blu-ray, that they're just wasting their money (because you can't improve the quality of something, only use illusions and gimmicks [RE: CSI uses alien technology from Roswell]).

To relate to LR:

I was waiting years for this opportunity.

"Alright, i'm getting on now." "Ok." *5 minutes later* "Dude, seriously, i've been sitting here waiting." "Sorry, it's still checking downloadable content."

If they (and this is any company) released everything - regardless of how many discs - iow, no dlc BS - at least not to the degree of ugliness it has gotten to - folks wouldn't have an issue. That's not even bothering people, really, aside frm those who are watching their finances. The "quality" of the outfits and put people off, though. The thing is, with incremental updates like this, people honestly have no idea how much they're spending. Whether or not TK needs to do this is a whole other debate for a whole other topic.

I wasn't looking for a no BC reason, I used that to illustrate a point! About the bad PR. Mass Effect 3 had this problem and if you think people are losing it here, was much, much worse there!

Let's see, how well did it work out for Mass Effect 3? Let's put it this way, i'm still waiting to see it show up on my ps3 friend list or to hear anyone i know playing it.

To make a long story short, Some still say how that left a bad taste in their mouths despite a feeble attempt to quell it to say the least! It was nice, but why wasn't it in the game? But of course, you then hear nothing but rationalizations. Same thing here!

Why wasn't what in the game? The DLC? Clearly alot of it was made after the release. They saw it as a cash cow, they knew they could milk it, so thy did. I am not even going to condemn the process since we all bought it hook-line-and-sinker, despite the fact that we all knew better and we all knew that we only needed to buy phase4, marie, and nyotengu to remain competitive (unless you want to argue that costumes actually impact opponent psychology, which would then open a whole new can of worms on the topic).

Just wanted to point out, that with the momentum that DOA5U has had recently in the competitive side of things, it makes no sense whatsoever to kill that momentum by announcing DOA6.

I'm ok with LR instead of 6. However, the content drop on the PS3 kills LR's viability in regards to stated purpose: we're already arguing whether or not stages should be banned. Moreover, PS3 and PS4 cross-play is extremely unlikely all things given, which also divides the community in regards to teaching the game. TK is trying to have their cake (keeping the game alive long enough to give itself power against it's competition) and eat it too (move everyone to ps4 for disc sales, without ticking everyone off for dropping a version of 5 for ps3). TK needs to pick something and stick with it, because it's just alienating existing customers and throwing money out the window. It's trying way too hard to meet 2 goals, so it'll end up just short of both of them (It's hard enough to justify a ps4, but when one of the games shows that it can console jump the moment it's available, i'm MUCH less likely to use it as one of my games to justify a console purchase [right now, the WiiU is winning my mental battle for Next Gen, but i cant justify it yet, either]).

I'm just not looking forward to the community being divided between last gen and current gen. The majority of us know that a lot of people either can't afford or aren't even thinking about getting the current gen yet. I'm one of the people who can't afford it, and it's a little frustrating that I won't be able to play some top contenders (even if it is just online) because of this.

I'm an online warrior because I can't make it to offline majors; the plane ride just can't happen most of the time. Not only that I'm on the East Coast, and no offense to New England, but the majority of better players are in the Central to Western US areas.

I'm ready for Last Round, I'm ready for new balance changes, i'm ready for all of that even without the flagship content the trailers have been teasing for what seems like forever. But I'm not ready to miss out on the opportunity to face talented players that will be gone for it.
