Didn't he just walk off into the desert in his DOA3 Ending? he didn't join the tournament at all in 4 so hes just done with it.

Never played 3. But if that the case they should of cut him out of 4 then. Would of made more sense.

you'd have a point except that 90% of the roster is irrelevant to the story, hell even vf characters are on the damn chart. team ninja couldn't even be bother to give a story related reason why he isn't in the tournaments any more and are simply phasing him out of existence. he goes from "im gonna prove im the strongest in the world based on my dead wifes dying words!" to "welp tried my best twice and failed now to get some ass somewhere else and forget about ever fighting again"

Why? so we could be where we are now back when 4 came out? There no reason to have Tengu, Ein or Spartan in 4 but there still there too.

For the story no. But its a fighting game, with fans and people who are attached to those characters (well sorta TENGU LOL) but point is, you see how much people moan over Ein and Leon, because thats someone they like to play as.

Yeah thats but seems like Team ninja is cutting out those characters that dont impact the story i guess. But what did you mean by "so we could be where we are now back when 4 came out?" What happened before 4 came out?

I meant the clamoring for Ein and Leon happening back before 4 instead of now.

Unlockable characters shouldn't matter if they have a part in the game canon wise. The story mode need merely revolve around the still important characters.
Like I said in a different topic, yeah - Ein, Tengu, Gen and Leon have no more purpose in the story, but that's different from just being in the game. Those characters were excluded from being able to be played in story mode for the single reason that they do not belong in it, but again, it doesn't mean they shouldn't/couldn't be added in Arcade or Versus or any other mode.
They don't have to remove a character from a game simply because of canon, but it certainly does motivate such a call.

Actually, that goes to the Sailor Moon S fighting game on Super Famicom. To this day, Neptune and Uranus are still one of the most popular ones around.
I will give DOA credit where it's due as an original fighting game that's not based on any prior media though, 'cause it's obviously more practical than an obnoxious girl with a fridge fetish, even if it was just a phase...

I personally think that Fang and Hitomi being lesbians is one of the cutest things in the game's story.

I interpreted the question mark(?) between Hitomi and Hayate as "their relationship is complicated" sort of deal. Since Hayate (when he was Ein) and Hitomi were close friends, it only makes sense that they would have a strong relationship. But when Hayate had his memories restored, he had to return to his village and their relationship has become a bit more intracate...
