I'm glad they revised his character design the most out of all characters. I like him much better this way. He has more character now than being just a blonde pretty boy. But the way he behaves plays also a big part in this. Now instead of being a cool prankster he's so clumsy and fidgety, which makes him in my book much more likable and relatable.

Yeah he looks so much better with the model and character changes he's gone through. There's just a lot more interesting stuff going on with his outfit now than before. Also that standing pose makes their arms look strangely longer than they should be. And I know not everyone feels this way but I actually like his facial features more now.
Edit: Also Grunt I'm actually surprised that's the part you like about Lightning, I'd of thought it would be her legs since they're what's actually showing... Well until the sequels.

Is it me, or have the character portraits gone? o__O (Hate when that happens!)
Yeah, his facial fetaures are not as perfect and soft anymore and his skin has some blemishes and of course the freckles now. He doesn't look like a model but a real person now, even though he would still be considered pretty I guess.
I think the arms appear to be so long because his arms are very thin... If he had just a little more meat on them they wouldn't look as twiggy.

Yeah the hair is definitely similar, he seems more likeable though and quirky. Not so much of an emotional wreak like Cloud. I've heardnthat in the original game though he was actual fun though so I don't know Cloud well enough.

What character portraits? Like in the menu screens when leveling up etc? If so then yeah that's a shame especially since its quick barren in XV's menu. And yeah that's what I was thinking for Prompto and why I like it now. He actually looks like someone real now.

Yeah... He was always a non interesting character to me, I don't honestly get his popularity.
It's a shame too, because they slowly made Lightning into that... In XIII she starts out super angsty and tsundere to be a really cool and cute character and then it slowly shifted into nothing until in Lightning Returns she was basically just Cloud in a dress.

I do nt really get what there is to like with characters like that honestly. Everyone gets sad but if a character just seems uninterested the whole time then I'll be as well. The same goes for Squall from what I've seen.
And yeah Lightning went right back to the starting point in the sequels after her progress and recovery in XIII. I guess she has the right though with the amount of crap that happened to her. ( doesn't make for an enjoyable character though )

Zack is a much more likable character, Zack is basically Cloud if he was cool and outgoing. I'm hoping VIIRemake goes into Crisis Core at some point to show how Zack was a cool character.

OMG, yes, I loved Carbuncles design in XIII and I loved the scene he was in:
It was in many of the XIII trailers and I was so disappointed to find out it was just a show in the game and not actually part of the game. XIII was design-wise and graphically amazing...but so disappointing in every other aspect. :/

Yeah I loved that scene not to mention that now that I've played FFX I actually know the summon that was shown in the parade. And I loved Carbuncles little southern accent when talking to Vanille!
Even if unlike me you didn't enjoy the game its good that you atleast got the design and graphics from it, personally though I loved it in all ways.
