Dead or Alive 6's first session of the beginner guide looks at how to block in DOA6. In DOA the easy part is attacking; simply pressing different combinations of "Punch" & "Kick" buttons will allow you to do flashy looking moves. However, the hard part is defense, and at the root of good defense is learning how to block.

There are three forms of guarding in DOA6: Simply holding down the guard button "H" will block all high & mid-hitting attacks. Holding "Back" or "4" on the D-pad will block the same moves, while also creeping back slowly. However, if you double-tap "Back-Back" or 4(4) and hold down the input, you'll enter the Freestep Block Backstep retreating guard stance. The FSBB is very useful during keepout or footsies in making it hard for the opponent to get an offense started on you because the FSBB both blocks highs & mids while creating space between you and your opponent, thus increasing the chances of the opponent whiffing attacks too. You can also advance on your opponent with crouch dashes too inputted by "Down-Forward~Down-Forward" or 33.

The key to good blocking is by first finding a blocking style that's comfortable to you whether by pressing H or holding 4 and then implementing the FSBB into your playstyle during the neutral game (which can also be accessed by inputting "Up-Back" or 7).
