This is a promotional video for a very early version of Dead or Alive 2. Being so early, it has a considerable number of differences from the final versions of the game.

We start off with a nice pan showing off the Ariel Garden stage that zooms into a match just starting between Ryu Hayabusa and Gen Fu. We then have a different camera angle of the naked Kasumi scene. Next, Tina and Bass are found in a stage not found in any version of DOA2. All the artwork assets seem to be from the Spiral stage found in the final versions of the game, including a short movie consisting of DOA1 footage. It's very likely that this stage was reworked into what we now know as the Spiral. The Danger Zone's usual intro, however, the textures have more of a brown tint to them. Next is Jann Lee and Bass going at it in a version of the Demon Church stage with a very different layout. The actual church appears to be a much smaller environment and when Bass knocks Jann Lee into the window, it explodes! The fight resets in that smaller church area and this time Bass is knocked out of the window and Jann Lee follows up. It should be noted that Jann Lee has his DOA1 voice work here, most likely as placeholder. Next we see Lei Fang (with blue hair) and Ayane fighting in the night time version of the Ariel Garden stage and the sound effects for counter-holds appears to be none-existent in this version. Next is Helena's elevator ride cut-scene but when the elevator door opens we find Tina instead of Lei Fang like in the final version. Here's comes some good stuff; tag! Characters have completely different and much longer opening animations than in DOA2 and these animations haven't been seen in any other version of DOA to date. Ryu's first attack is his :8::F+P: from DOA3! This was thought to be a new attack in DOA3 but appears to be present in this very early version of DOA2. When Bass comes in, he appears to be attacking but this is just a much longer tag-in animation. This is also not seen in any other DOA game ever. It should be noted that they're fighting on a very early version of the Death Valley stage. Here it is only one level, which is just the top section in the final, but is also much larger than the top area in the final. This stage is also unavailable for tag in the final game. Next is the cut-scene where Ayane casts some sort of ninpo (magic) on Kasumi in the White Storm stage. Ayane has no place holder voice work here and remains silent despite the animations for her mouth moving being present. It should be noted that the timer in this early version is gold rather than silver like in the final. Another thing to note, while missing from this exact video, this version is referred to as Dead or Alive 2 RealTime Demo. ver. 990217, as in, this build is dated February 17th 1999.
