@Lulu KI also has an "arguably" greater consequence for choosing wrong. You get locked out and have to eat the whole combo.
Also, 3-Way holds are nothing new to the DOA franchise. Hell, you could say 4-Way holds dumbed it down from DOA++ to 2.
It's undeniable that it will easier transition players into DOA's mechanics, but I personally don't think it's necessary.

Thats always been something that bug me alil by KI... the game puishes the combo breaker attempt...

In DoA... I can punish Holds myself with whatever I want....

Its the same thing with Street Farter and Anti-Airs... imagine if the game automatically punished players from bad jump ins.
